What is the Slaughterhouse?

I keep seeing it on the side, and sometimes I click on it just to see what it is, but I'm not allowed. There's an old thread that just says it's an adult off-topic, but I'm curious what exactly that means.

Here's what I THINK it is. I think it's for drawings and conversations that aren't child-friendly. They might be risque or pornographic, and they are off-limits unless you are allowed- old enough, been here long enough.

But that's just what I think- I don't really know. After seeing the option for years, I'm finally curious enough to ask, so it clearly isn't really high on my bucket list.

I think it was for highly debated topics and adult stuff. I don't know if it was necessarily for pornographic images or stories, though.

I kind of wish they'd reactivate it, though. The discussions could be fun. Though I'd worry it could make people who are friends with each other here now turn against each other if a debated topic comes up. It's weird how a disagreement on a certain topic can do that to people.

Actually when I first saw it I thought it was a place where people sold bait Ponies or Ponies that were nearly unfixable or people asking for advice how to fix a Pony that is nearly impossible to fix up again.

The Slaughterhouse is still active, it has never been deactivated. Members however are removed due to inactivity.

There is a reason there is not more detail about what is in the SH - it is a private, restricted access, forum. Adult Off Topic is best description we can give - it's a little of everything, but it's a smaller secure forum where members can open up more (and yes, more adult topics come up). That's why it's restricted access, and each applicant has to complete a questionnaire, and everyone is screened before being granted access. Not everyone is accepted, for various reasons, or are sometimes asked to try again at a later date.

I remember seeing kinda what it was about back in the mid 2000s when I joined here and how people compared it to MLP Catfights and that sort of forums.

I can see why someone would compare it to Catfights, but it is vastly different too - while it allows for a looser environment, we absolutely do not allow member bashing - 99% of the site rules still apply in the SH.

Yes, SH is a very friendly, positive place. There's a lot of light-heartedness, a lot of laughter.
