Which colors are prone to dryness?
« on: June 30, 2015, 04:43:57 PM »
As a model horse collector, I know that white hair is a bit stiffer and doesn't take to water easily, making it more prone to drying out faster, and I wonder if its the same with pony hair.

I have one G1 with lavender hair sitting on my bed right now after conditioning because her hair is pretty dry. Is it all ponies with lavender hair, or just that particular batch? Is it across all generations? Or just a product of age? Have you o' Wise Pony Peeps noticed that certain hair colors dry out faster?

I'd love to hear about your experiences and thoughts. :)

The worst offenders for me are color change hair and Paradise' red...SO difficult to straighten!

I thought of Paradise's red too! The chartreuse too, I seem to find. I wonder if there's a connection between hair colors not being color fast and prone to dryness?

And that color change hair... *shudders* Most of my sunshine ponies look pretty ragged. I think only Mainsail has really nice hair.

Same for me. My paradise has good curls though, I boil permed them back in. Barnacle and Strawberry Fair were bad too. I've had a Barnacle with hair that totally disintegrated in transport so sent him back to the seller. Colour change hair is the worst though especially as any heat treatment seems to ruin the colour changeness..Normal white or lavender hair are not especially bad on any of mine though.

I think some of the more matte colors are less silky overall, and so may feel more dry when they are worn?

That's true! I have 2 but I forget thier names

And about Barnacle yeah it was pretty traumatic! I started a thread about it somewhere. We concluded he'd been washed in cleaning fluid containing bleach :meh:

I would agree that deep orangy red or red colours can be the absolute worst but I would say for drying out yellows and whites. But I would say depending on circumstances pretty much any colour can be a headache.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

OH! I remember a terrible G3 I got...Jazzy Blues? Boogaloo? Something like that...she had a trumpet on her tuchus and *dang* her hair was matted! I figured it was a chronic thing with her as every one I've seen at the thrift has been equally as bad :(

Jazz Matazz? Yes, she has HORRIBLE hair problems.

I have more problems with G1 Birthflower Pink, but maybe just that particular one? (June Rose)

G3 white and Midnight Dream's darker pink seem to particularly difficult in my experience. Also, color changing hair.
