Wow, that would be a tough call.. what if you could find ones that were in playable condition? My daughter is 9. She loves the G1 the best too, because she likes the way they look. I let her look at all the ponies on Strawberry reef and make a list, so believe me she picked a few in the "fat chance" category lol,, Like the mommy and baby pony she picked out! On the other hand, we both like ponies that have been loved and we can actively play with... so that brings quite a few of them down in price substantially. If your gut says to give her a shot, I would go with playable ponies.. I don't really think the fact that she didn't say anything to both members about the little girl means very much.. it could simply mean that she was not trying to use it as a bargaining tool, and she just felt like reaching out to you. Sometimes people do that. Don't get me wrong, I am the person who once took a teenager home from the hotel because he was stranded and broke, and gave him a ride to Michigan.. so I tend to do wild things like that lol. On the other hand, I am a firm believer in "meeting angels unaware.."   :)

I have to say that it is possible for a 7 year old to know about g1 ponies. I think it depends on the people they around them and if they have ever had G1s. Both of my daughters have G1s and my 5 year old asked to have a Chief for Christmas this year. She did not really know his name, she just knew what he looked like. She told me she wanted the boy Firefighter, and since I know g1 I knew who she meant. My youngest wanted the boy Pirate Pony who is Barnacle.

BUT...there are scammers out there. You are not obligated to offer anything. If you want, and you have a lower priced one that you could part with for cheap, you can offer her that.

I think it is possible the ponies were wanted as a good deal/scam, but I notice many of the ones on that list are types more than pony names.  Maybe if you feel like messaging this person, point them toward the cheaper sets of newborn twins and so on?  While none of the ponies seem to be really cheap ones, they also aren't expensive ones like I'm used to seeing scammers go after.  No Mimic, no mail orders, not even the more expensive boys, really!

If i were to recieve this email I think I would send it to eBay and let them deal with it. There are better ways to get ponies for children in bad situations, and messaging random people on eBay really isn't one of them. Even if it is for a child with cancer it's an unfair and emotionally blackmailing way in which to do it.

I've had a break from selling over Christmas and New Year so haven't noticed anything fishy myself but this defintiely doesn't sound right. I doubt I'll be contacted if they're wanting cheap and cheerful prices as I'm in the UK and shipping would negate that but will keep an eye out for this when my listings go back up later this week. Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately, in all my years bartering on the internet I just don't believe in sad stories anymore. I've seen so many people fake illnesses and deaths to take advantage of others or try to get discounts.

If it were me, I wouldn't buy it for a second. Ebay and other selling sites are full of scammers with sob stories to try and save money. I would just offer condolences and refuse to discount.

I agree with you. I don't buy the sad stories unless it's someone sharing information without trying to get something from it.

That is so incredibly sad. Has she been reported to eBay?
The worst part of this, I think, is that it lends less credulity to people who are actually aflicted with illness or ill family members. Taking advantage of someone's good nature and sympathetic tendancies should be punished not just by eBay but by law. Wish there were a way to file fraud chrges against her. What a creep!

I had a feeling it was a scam. If it was real, I would think the aunt would be happy to get ANY ponies and not specific and would be asking at church and in the community and NOT on eBay. Some people will sink very low apparently to get what they want.
