Are these ponies "okay" to customize?
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:27:24 PM »
I have a friend on another website that wanted me to post here, they have some G3s and G1s that they wanted to customize. But they weren't sure about whether the ponies were "okay" to customize or not.

The ponies are:

G3:
Star Swirl
Goodie Goodie
Scooter Sprite
Lolligiggle
Skywishes
Desert Blossom

G1:
Glory
Seashell (they said this Seashell has no tail and a loose head).

Can anyone tell us which ponies will be okay to customize and which aren't? Thanks ^^

Goodie Goodie is on the somewhat more popular side...if she's mint then I would say maybe try to trade her first.

Seashell isn't really rare but she's sought after. I would say for sitting ponies it's always better to restore them or trade/sell to someone who can appreciate them. Lots of G1s have loose heads - I usually open mine to clean them thoroughly. It's not a flaw. And a tail can be replaced! I say don't bait her.

I would hold off on Lolligiggle because she was a holiday pony. Goodie Goodie is an exclusive from Sam's club so no go. Seashell no. There were 2, I repeat 2, regular release sitting G1s. They should not be customized. A loose head is NOT a flaw and a missing tail is easily replaced. She actually lost over half her price when the economy went down but pony prices have been on the rise again.

Most g3s are ok to bait IMO ;)

I wouldn't personally bait Seashell as I don't have her yet.... But of course it's up to you hun your ponies your choice :)

is there anything wrong with any of these ponies apart from Seashell (which I agree is far from being a bait?)

I am strongly against customizing any ponies that are not in bait condition, especially if they are G1, so I would never customize Glory (which, btw, I don't even have myself)

Honestly sweetheart a Mimic is "okay" to customize if you think you can make something swell with her. They're always going to be your ponies, so don't let anyone else bully you into thinking otherwise.

I don't know for sure, they didn't tell me the condition of any of the ponies besides the Seashell. xP

Thanks for everyone's help though! I'll be sure to tell them ^^

Star Swirl- she'd be fine to bait.
Goodie Goodie- i'd keep her the way she is.
Scooter Sprite- if she has nice hair i'd leave her be, since normally her hair gets really frizzy.
Lolligiggle- i'm leaning a bit more towards the "no" side for her.
Skywishes- she's be fine to bait.
Desert Blossom- she'd also be fine to bait

The g1's- please for the love of satan at least make an attempt to restore them first! if glory is truly manky and whatnot, she'd be ok to bait since shes pretty common. but not seashell, since shes fairly sought after. i wouldnt bait a g1 anyway, but its entirely your choice. if they are salvageable maybe someone else would want them (i'd take seashell off your hands)?

Hmm...I'm not an expert on customizing since I've never done it.  My opinion is it would probably depend on the condition of the pony and of course if it's hard to find.

I agree about not touching Lolligiggle, Goodie Goodie or the g1s.

G1s in particular are becoming more and more difficult to find second hand so I would avoid customizing them.

I think it depends all on their condition. G3s can be baited without any flaws (although it makes me wince, since there are so MANY flawed G3s yet people always manage to bait the just-fine ones...), but G1s need to be very carefully treated. :) I'd say, more than three flaws (irremovable marks, missing hair, missing symbols/eyes, missing parts, cuts in the plastic, etc.) would be fine to bait.

As a person who really enjoys custom ponies, I would say it's completely up to your friend! Personally I think G1's are okay to customize if they're in bad condition, but that's just me.

As a G3 collector with over 200 of them, I know the value of most G3's is pretty bland, especially right now with the over-saturated market.

The only thing I would be iffy on customizing for the G3's is Goodie Goodie, as she was an exclusive and seems pretty rare, for a G3.

Some people may say Lolligiggle because she was a holiday theme pony, but I seem to see a lot of her floating around... I don't think she's that rare.
Thank you Thimble for my amazingly cute avatar!

I don't know about the g1s but I'd say all the g3s would probably be ok, except the goodie goodie, she's quite nice the way she is. Plus, not the easiest pony to find. Not the most difficult but not the easiest either.

Although I am in fear of starting an argument, I am going to say that I live in a world where they are your ponies to do as you wish with and I dont think we should cast judgement whatever you do....

Personally I would find it tough to customise a pony which did not have flaws which I could not fix but what is one persons "fixer upper" is another persons "bait"...you ll probably need to know exact condition to decide.
