Custom ponys price-help (beginner)
« on: October 20, 2012, 04:18:11 PM »
Hi, I would love to know about what prices you think are resonable for my customs. I'm a beginner so I was thinking the price would only cover the cost of the pony and the materials, so about 5-10 dollars? I can't keep them all and I would love to buy more materials to keep on with this hobby =)

I'll show the four customs I've made:
First custom (she has two black glass eyes):

Personally your first two are awesome. I would pay 20 bucks...The last two...maybe 10.

Don't take it from me yet, wait for the others XD

You're very talented, your work looks so professional!

Personally, I don't collect customs so I probably wouldn't pay more than 20, but based on how much I see customs going for, I think your work could easily get up to 40+.

Wow, i agree, you are really talented! The first one is absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't let them for under 20USD if I were you, but an auction is always a good idea to get a feel for what people are prepared to pay.

good luck with your sales!

I also suggest auctioning them off for a first feel. But this also can be tricky.
I managed to sell some customs for really high prices and others just wouldn't sell for cheap even if they were more laborate than others.

But I go with MaronaPossessed. The first two at least 20 USD. (Actually the first one has a theme, gradient painted and a detailled symbol (both sides?) so I'd say 25 USD.

The third is quite simple (eyes are original?) but the symbols are very clean painted. You obviously put thought and effort in them so I'd say 12-15 USD. (I think 10 is never enough to cover bait, paints, hair, tools and get a little + for at least a coffee)

The last one... tricky. Lovely hair, but I can't say much to the symbol. Looks like a silver sphere. I'd say 12.

Hope this helps.
And keep up the good work. I'd like to see more. :D

You have very lovely work!  Pricing is always a tricky thing at any level of experience.  Some of it depends on how fast you want them to sell.  Do you want them to fly to new homes in a week?  If so, you will want to price them lower.  If you are content to hold onto them and wait for the right buyer, price them higher.

Also it can help to look around the forums and even eBay and see what customs are selling for.  This is a little tricky as artists can ask whatever they want for a pony, but if they overprice themselves their work will not sell.  It depends on the pony itself, how much work went into it, does it have any unique features?  I think you will find that the more expensive ponies have lots of high quality sculpting, insanely detailed paintwork, massive styled hair, custom dyed hair, etc.

You have very lovely ponies!  The last two each feature a reroot and a beautiful new symbol.  It would probably be a good idea to look at other ponies with similar changes to get a ball park.

(Also, don't fret too much if they don't sell lightning fast right now.  This time before the holidays a lot of people are trying to save money up and it *can* be harder to sell)

Hope this helps!  Can't wait to see what you create next!

I think they all look beautiful! I would personally price the first two lower than the last two. This is because the last two look like they have had some attempt to tame and style their hair. The wild "just rehaired" look leaves a pony feeling unfinished to me. Even if all you do is tame it so it lays down, I find that to look much better than the wild Mohawk hair. I think you have very clean painting, and that you can do some amazing things! I would love to see more of your work in the future :)

I do have to agree that an auction may be an easy way to gauge interest for the ponies. Maybe make a classified listing for them here and see how it goes?

Everyones oppinions are different. id pay more for the second and fourth ones rather than the first and third.
I would defenetly auction them or put them up for sale and ask for an offer

I love the first one. those eyes are great! I wish her tail hole had been made a little bigger for a thicker tail...but she's great!
