PC on Sweet Secret vintage toy
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:18:04 PM »
Hey there! I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but I need a PC on a sweet secret. I have this sweet secret bear that used to have eyeshadow on the inside but doesn't anymore. On the back of it, it says "MADE IN MACAO" does that make it rare or different? My other ones say made in China, Japan, etc. If anyone could help I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Do you have a photo?  I don't know a whole lot about these price wise but it might help those who do.

I've collected them off and on and watch the auctions sometimes-- I'm no expert on them, but here's what I've observed. The Play Make-up ones don't seem to be all that sought after, which I think is because they don't have a jewel. I also wonder if the ones with actual make-up weren't as commonly owned by children because some parents didn't want their kids making a mess

That said, animal Sweet Secrets, in general, are well-liked and seem to sell faster and for more than the doll type. I don't often see any type of loose Sweet Secrets sell for more than $12, with the average being $3-6 each. I don't know if the place it was made matters; the line was all over the place, in a number of respects, so it could be a variation-- you may want to look into that further before taking my advice on pricing, but the bear looks pretty standard and actually just like the one on the GOTD page; whoever wrote up that information seems very familiar with the line and I think would have mentioned if there was anything important about the one pictured or variations. I'd at least mention the location in the auction, just in case it matters to someone. But I'm pretty sure it won't matter for pricing.

Because it's a small collecting community, with many collectors are looking for just a few that they owned or working on completing collections with favorites at the top of the list, here's what I'd do: I'd list it as a BIN with a longer listing time period, such as 7, 10, or 30 days (maybe start with 7 to see if it sells-- and if not, relist for 30) with a price of $8-12. You could also list it as a 7 day auction/BIN starting at maybe $6 auction with the higher BIN. Those methods seem to work well, from what I've seen. Good luck :) I'm sure someone will want that cute little bear!

Wow thanks Sunsnail! That information was very helpful. I decided to list her starting bid $6 on ebay and see how it goes. I did some research of my own and I also don't think pricing has much to do with where the Sweet Secret was made. Too bad though I thought maybe I had something special lol. Thanks for the help guys!
