MACAU PONIES
« on: April 28, 2013, 02:15:29 PM »
I seem to only find threads asking for price checks or saying they own one or ask for help cleaning them. So because I'm embracing knowledge and want to know anyway could someone please explain to me the term MACAU in relation to ponies. I'm watching some on ebay, I can see slight differences, mostly with Lemon Drop but would like to know more. I also saw a MACAU Jenny (never heard of her).

All wisdom is appreciated

You can see Macau ponies in My Little Wiki.  :) http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/Macau And you are right, as the wiki says too, "Macau ponies are made in Macau, but sold elsewhere. ". They are like normal ponies but with different colours.

Yup, made in Macau. And I believe Jenny is called Jenny as she's brown, like the pony Megan had at her stable before Firefly took her over the rainbow to Dreamvalley who Megan referred to as Jenny?

Also you can see pics in the Nirvana gallery of all the Macau ponies. It was where they are made. Jenny is brown Snuzzle/Peachy variant. Some say she was made to be like Megan's TJ just before she met Firefly. They usually don't go for very much (compared to other Nirvanas). Anymore questions feel free to post in the Nirvana forum. You'll get a lot of knowledgable pony peeps in there :)

The wiki is not always the best place for complete information on foreign ponies. Ponies were produced in Macau by a company called Arxon under license from Hasbro. They were sold in Germany & surrounding countries. All MOC Macau ponies that have been found have German cards, but some collectors throughout Europe have found them in other countries (or had them in childhood collections), which points to the distribution being more than just Germany.

Other than color differences, all Macau ponies have longer manes & light blue eyes. The word "MACAU" is stamped under one foot. All of the ponies have different names such as Rosy, Nelly, and Belly (lol).

Here is my Macau collection, along with MOC Jenny: https://facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.509247069126809.124772.508038065914376&type=1&__user=1221015040

Macau ponies were made in macau ;)

Jenny is called jenny just like lemondrop is called lemondrop, it is her name no other reason :P ;) The Macau ponies were mostly sold in Germany and so the names will be different.

The macau release names are as follows:

Candy ~ cotton candy
Rosey ~ snuzzle
Folly (pretty parlour card name) ~ lemondrop
Minky ~ minty
Nelly (pretty parlour card name) ~ peachy
Bonny ~ blossom and butterscotch/blossom hybrid
Jenny ~ "brown peachy" though if you look at the card the pony shown is in fact butterscotch. No "regular" version of butterscotch was macua made other than the blossom/butterscotch hybrid.
Belly ~ bluebell

Not all nirvana ponies are expensive, quite a few do fall into the $20 mark :) this includes the italin ponies.

What do you mean by why Macau? The Hasbros were much more separate back in the 80s than they are now and they were made under license by a different company, so they probably had deals with factories in different locations.

Macau belongs to China. But it is a very small island,so why were they especially made in Macau? Why not China as so much others? What was the reason?I was just wondering
But i guess nobody can know.. :lookround:

Macau was under Portuguese administration until 1999. Having them made in Macau isn't really much different from having some made in Thailand (like the Fancy Pants and  MBs) for example. Most of the MLPs produced under license used local factories, but it looks like this one had links with ones in Macau.
