Help needed with DEFLOCKing noob :)
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:13:31 AM »
so i have this SS pony, a rather elusive one and she is begging for a deflocking. ive never done it before and i want to try!!
i do have a common SS to try it on first so that will be good :)

i read unicornicopias tutorial
http://www.freewebs.com/unicornucopiamlp/deflocking.htm
but i am hoping to be able to deflock without acetone or jasco

is it possible? i have oxyclean and a few other cleaning items

anyone have luck with other methods?

It's possible but it really depends on the pony and the condition of the glue.  If you're lucky, you can deflock with just hot water and a bit of rubbing alcohol (usually ponies with extremely yellowed glue).  Others resist even pure acetone (and I've never been able to find Jasco around here).  I don't bother with the oxyclean - all it ever accomplished for me that plain hot water didn't was drying out the hair.

I'd try just running the hottest tap water over the pony at first then trying to scratch a bit of the flocking away.  If it practically peels off in large clumps then continue like that and have some rubbing alcohol ready for removing the last bits of glue residue (shouldn't hurt the symbols).  If it doesn't just peel off, then you'll likely need to use some harsher chemicals. (You can still try the rubbing alcohol, but it will take a lot longer and depending on how strong the glue is may not work at all.)

Awesome!
Thank you!
She's in hot water as we speak :) I think some of the spots will come off easily

So the boiling water doesn't hurt the hair??

Do not boil the neon green/yellow chartreuse hair. The whole body will stain that color.

I used a green scrub pad. The plastic Brillo type pads. I also used acetone which killed the scrubbie but it was a safe way to scrub the flocking without hurting the plastic. I also boiled mine in a pot of water and tide laundry detergent first. I used acetone on what wouldn't come off after that.

You mentioned an uncommon one, is it part of the second set?  I had an Angel that was pretty much already deflocked, but she was still covered in a layer of glue.  Rubbing alcohol took AGES to get it off, I really had to scrub at it and do it multiple times.  I read somewhere that the set she came in has more stubborn glue, and she fit that description...I deflocked a wind whistler and a paradise at the same time, and their flocking just peeled off with acetone, and the rubbing alcohol got the glue easily, but she just didn't want to lose her glue lol.  So if you try something on a more common one, it may still not be the same with the uncommon one :/

I've used acetone for all of mine, even soaked them in it, and all of them have beautiful eyes and symbols, even their blush.  It makes their hair icky, but after a good wash it's fine.  Rubbing alcohol may work too, but will take a lot longer and you'll probably use more.  Never tried boiling (it's supposed to soften the glue), tho oxy baths haven't done anything for me.
