The cat face itself is really cute but... what the HECK is going on with the whole design?!? My god, Mattel, if you're that hard-up for ideas on how to "prettify" the pets then just stop making them!!

That Draculaura looks AMAZING.  Oh, I do want.  Those bat theme accessories are darling.

I also think Clawdeen looks much better.  Her accessories are also very cute.

Clawdeen looks like a massive improvement over the first one with the horrible hair. Let's hope the hair is actually a better quality and not just styled that way
I like the dark purple and teal on her. Looks like these are G3's equivalent to G1's School's Out aka Sig 2.0.
I still have that Frankie and Lagoona in my collection. I'm curious what the other characters will look like. Fingers crossed for Cleo in a mummy wrap suit.

That Drac is kind of a perfect G3 version of her G1 Signature look imo.  Clawdeen on the other hand.... at least her hair looks better!

I do like the special edition Lala's dress and hair. I also like Skelita but agree that it's been done already and doesn't need a repeat. Good call on Abbey. It should be Abbey.

I don't have an issue with them plus-sizing Catty, but I do have an issue with kids' toys being styled on a real person. Not specifically because of the potential controversies around this one, but because this is a kid's toy, and it's better not to tie toys to adults who may then do something that is decidedly awkward for the line in general.

(Example, G4 and Sia. Without going into that, her coming around full circle doesn't erase things said and done, or the impact those things may have had).

So maybe Catty isn't the right character to be plus-sized, just because of those inevitable comparisons.

Mind you, in context with all the attempts to make the line more diverse and inclusive, the decision to sanitise Ghoulia just rankles all the more.

Going back to what I said about the dolls looking cheap - I wasn't meaning that they are badly made. Just that the choice of pallette/plastic colouring makes them look like that to me. The colours seem less nuanced and harsher, and yes, the designs are a lot more 'safe'.

I totally get what you mean, I agree 100%.

G3s all look so much younger to me! That's not a bad thing, necessarily, they just have a different sort of charm to G1, for me.

What is up with the G3 pets getting species-changed for no reason? Clawdeen now has a wolf instead of a cat, Draculaura has a cat? dog? with bat wings instead of a bat, the new Venus will allegedly have this:

I hope this prototype gets tossed. It looks like Chewlian swallowed the cheshire cat.

Apparently the idea is for the pets to look like 'magical girl familiars' according to the designer Cristina Frankel (https://www.instagram.com/cristina.faline/?hl=en) which is a neat idea but in my opinion isn't really something that works for MH?
Apparently Crescent was staying a cat but the higher-ups decided she had to be a wolf (why?), and Count Fabulous is Draculaura's 'familiar' which means he can change shape apparently

Magical girl familiars, like... Luna? Kero? Kyubey?  But  the G3 pets are nothing like that?

Count Fabulous being a shapeshifter kinda works for me... right at the end of G1 there was that one book, or something, that said "Oh btw, he's an actual vampire, he just got stuck in bat form" and then never followed up on it... so if THAT is still a thing in G3, then yeah, okay. I guess I could see him being a shapeshifting vampire creature.

Mostly it just bugs me how uber-cutesy the pets are since like... they look alright *in general*!!! But they don't really match with G3 to me. More Cave Club than Monster High. The aesthetics just don't quite match up. They look like they're from a different toyline.

Why wasn't abbey in the fearidescent skulltimate secrets?! Would have been perfect with the snow theme. I can't decide whether to purchase her signature doll... not sure if it's worth 40 plus dollars or if I should wait until I could hopefully pick her up in person this summer. Also, I just want more Rochelle dolls please!!

My neon frights Frankie came this weekend! Pretty cool doll. I’m trying to decide which (if any) other dolls from neon frights I want.  I reeeally want the faboolous 2-pack from Target. Hopefully I can find it this week.
