I have GOT to get caught up on the comics, though. I have most of them digitally, but I still haven't read all of them. I've been reading too many other, less important books.

this DOES look interesting, hopefully its not stupid. I remember that there was another G1 cameo in a comic that I have, it had all of the first release G1 characters (but they were slightly in the background). They had G4 bodies though.

That was a cute reference. I loved see Butterscotch, Minty, Bluebelle, etc. as G4's for a brief moment.

There was also the fact that Celestia's pupils in one flashback were all G1 unicorns. :3 I love that reference. Young Gusty!

I do wonder if there will be any G1 refs in the comic, though a comic cover can basically be anything, doesn't have to refer to anything going on in the actual story (especially if it's a guest artist).

I wasn't a fan of them to begin with, the writing doesn't even try to make sense. But what I despise most about them is how they continuously try to take the actual canon and pretend they can just make up historical events, relationships, and details and try to pass them off as anything but fanfiction.

Haha, and now they're putting out an entire series specifically to do just that, Dulset!

I remember there was an issue that takes place while Chrysalis is being held by the ponies and imprisoned (a result of the last time they fought her in the comics), and Twilight comes to visit her and asks if Chrysalis will tell her side of the story so Twilight can record it for her library. Chrysalis, being the evil, crafty bugpony she is, agrees and tells Twilight several different backstories for the Changelings race (and then uses the distraction to escape haha!).

The writing left it kinda ambiguous (like, maybe Chrysalis was just making it all up to get Twilight distracted) but it was still interesting to see a history and backstory for the Changelings. At one point they destroy an entire Pegasus city.

LOL, the comics aren't fanfiction. That's like saying the UK G1 comics were fanfiction because they didn't perfectly match the G1 cartoon show, or vice versa.  Honestly, I would like to see the comics diverge even farther from the show so that they (the comic writers) can do their own thing without constantly having to retcon to "match" the cartoon.  It's worked wonders for the IDW Transformers series.
