POTD 12/13/2016 Lily Lightly

I have her, she is Super Long Hair plus High Tech,Light up horn and dress and blinking eyes
so could not pass her up for my G3 herd

I don't like her lobster dress, but once you take it off you can see her beautiful symbol!  (Taking it off requires cutting wires and permanently disabling the dress' light-up function, though.)

I really like her eyes.  MUCH better than the creepy glass BBE ponies' eyes.  If they'd made them "cartoony" like Lily Lightly's I'd like them a lot more.  I've always felt her animated short ("Come Back, Lily Lightly") made a good metaphor for coming out, whether that's what the writers intended or not, lol.

she does have such a pretty symbol! i wish they had released a standard version of her in addition to her fancy release.

also now i really want to find and watch that short!!

I used to have her back in the day since she was a present, but honestly she was too gimmicky for me, I like simpler ponies >>

I don't have her and I don't really plan on getting her. She's alright, though! Just wish they made a normal figure of her.

I tried to find it on Youtube, but it was only available with brony commentaries . . . no thanks, lol!

The basic plot is:

Lily Lightly is in charge of the Festival of Lights (or something like that) in Unicornia.  Rarity the baby unicorn is helping, but gets sidetracked because she'd rather laugh with her unicorn friends than work. (Song: Get the Giggles.) At the end of the song Lily Lightly laughs too, and her happiness causes her horn to light up.   She quickly makes up an excuse to leave.  Rarity and the others are left surprised and confused because they've never seen a) Lily's horn light up and b) any other unicorn's horn light up either. One of the unicorns comments that she has never seen Lily Lightly happy before.  Wow!  DEPRESSING.

In a nearby field, a friendly firefly listens as Lily explains that none of the other unicorns have this "problem" (the horn-glowing) and it makes her feel abnormal and isolated.  (Song: Shine On.)  "It's a little hard for me 'cause I'm different as can be.  I don't know what they'll think of me when I show them I shine . . . I want to be like everyone, have the usual kind of fun.  Every day in my heart I hope it'll be okay."

She ends up either getting lost or running away, I can't remember which, and the other ponies look for her.  (Including Pinkie Pie and Minty, who are visiting from Ponyville.)  The other unicorns figure out that Lily Lightly is upset / embarrassed about her horn glowing, so they wrap lights around their own horns to show Lily that they support her and don't think she's weird.  Lily gets her lobster dress (lol) and the story ends on a happy note.

A lot of people have aspects of their life or themselves that they're embarrassed about, but what made me think "wow, I'm getting a real LGBT vibe from this" was that Lily Lightly wasn't troubled by having a unusual hobby or a birthmark or something, but rather by something intrinsic and biological, yet invisible.  She doesn't choose to light up her horn, it just happened when she's happy; so she tries to pass as "normal" even though it means having the constant, gnawing fear of being found out and denying herself happiness.  It sounded a lot like being in the closet to me.  Also that song (Shine On).  Wow, that was a heck of an anxiety-ridden song for normally peppy G3.

Have two of her, one with nice hair and no dress, and one with a dress but with horrible hair.
I don't really like her. Her hard plastic body is a big no for me.

I want her, i think she's beautiful.Plus she's one of the best g3 characters in the show and one of the only that has a real personnality.Shine On is a great song.
