Is there ever a time to throw a pony away? :/
« on: August 21, 2016, 07:12:21 PM »
So I got these two ponies in a lot and have them quarantined right now. They have some really bad vinyl-embedded mold going on. (Pretty sure it's mold and not cancer or age spots . . .) Normally I would clean up extras like these and sell them, but I don't think there's any way to get rid of this mold, and I doubt anyone would buy them (?). But what to do? I don't like to throw away ponies  Is it their time to go?

I don't even throw fakies away... ^^; :throw:

I would buy them for a reasonable price as baits since I like customizing.  ;)  Whether a full body repaint or creative cutting/sculpting is necessary, mold and cancer ridden bodies are thrilling because of the lack of guilt associated with making lovable/awesome something that would have been thrown away otherwise.

They're also good candidates for those that like trying restoration techniques on a pony that doesn't tug on the heartstrings or cause fear of trying due to cost of pony. Restoration buffs would rather you didn't clean the ponies more than a casual surface wipe or checking to see if it smells of cigarettes. Don't take their spa day from them.
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

I'm making custom cute pony plushies and have set up an Etsy store called Ponies A'More! Ponies + More + LOVE! :inlove:

I don't think it would hurt to see if anyone would take them for cost of shipping if you're at the point of throwing them away . There are some adamant restorers/customizers around who would want to save even the baitiest of ponies.  :)

Do people bleach moldy ponies? Does that work? In any case I think there are plenty of folks willing to tolerate or try to fix ponies with these issues. I even saw someone resculp a huge chunk of the face of a Big Brother pony a dog has chewed. With vintage ponies, most seem of the opinion that almost anything is savable, or at least worth a try!

Especially in the case of Rosedust, her hair is super pink and unfaded, and someone might want to Frankenstein her head and tail onto a body that isn't moldy.

Bleach would probably kill it if it's mold. You could also try anti-mold spray. If it's mold, that would kill it, but it might stain, but at least it could be customized. I'd try soaking them in bleach and see what happens. If the alternative is to toss them, might as well experiment!

Personally, I say NEVER throw a pony away! I wouldn't be able to do it myself. Their cute little faces would look at me and I would be a wreck.

They really don't look that bad to me, I am sure someone would want them for customs or restoration. If they came up on eBay when I'm searching "my little pony bait" (something I do a lot) I would buy them like a shot.

Never. Those two honestly don't look that bad to me - I would take their heads off and give them a thorough cleaning inside and out and then offer them for sale for a price that reflects their condition. As others have said, they could be used for customs at any rate.

Nope, never amd im being serious!

All ponies can be saved somehow! I had a bad Candance fashion style that I had to paint it to hide spots. Sunfade marker off of ponies and things like poop and mold can be sanitized. Chew marks can be fixed with air dry putty and cotton candy-like frizzy pony hair can always be untangled, in some cases just rehaired.

For the spots on your ponies I would honestly try to boil them for sanitation and then paint over them! That hair on Sundance....I know it might seem impossible to fix, belive me I had a Pinkie Pie keychain with hair waaay worse than that, but its very treatable! Use a revivalizant conditioner ($1 Ion packet at sallys beauty supplies wors alright) and condition their hair for days. Use a wide tooth comb to brush from ends to roots and condition. Don't use sampoo only conditioner, when it seems ready to manage keep gentle brushing and try to strenghten small sections at a time on a very low setting.

Never! If you don't want to or can't fix the damage a pony has, send them along to someone else who can. Although it may not seem like it there is a limited supply of G1s in the world. Don't ever throw them away.

These two are totally fine. Their problems really aren't that bad. If I had enough money in my Paypal I'd take that Sundance in a heartbeat. She'd clean up fine.

The only way I could see it is if the pony was chewed up beyond fixing by an animal, or had some sort of irreparable damage that compromised its overall body. Even then, it would have to be really bad to actually throw it away. I'd be happier offering it very cheap to a customizer with a lot of imagination, even letting it go for free.

I never throw any ponies away I learned my lesson on that. They were fakies but I felt bad afterwards. I just would see if anyone would want them. :) I know we have lots of talented customizes or restorers that would turn them into great ponies.
