I have a note book with a list of all known ponies that I could find. I have check marks next to each I have and multiple checks for multiples.

I have an approximate count but I'd have to either make a list or count them to figure the exact #. It's close to 75 total with ~25 G1s and ~50 G3s.

Off the top of my head I know who I do and don't have, but I have no idea how many that is.  I keep a mostly up to date spreadsheet but I'm not great at keeping up with it.

This.....is so me.  LOL

I only have a small herd so they're really easy to keep track of. Now the ponies on my want list - those are tough to keep track of! XD

I did an inventory a year ago and wrote down every pony I owned on a spreadsheet. I have not bought a pony since so I have no problem keeping the numbers in my head.

Way back when, I had a list, but the last few years I've added a lot to it and now have no idea!  A lot of them are spares- getting unwanted ponies from my sisters' collections blew any lists out of the water as I'm still slowly cleaning them!  i'm pretty clear on what I don't have/want to find, though once or twice I've had to check :)

I hope to get to the point where I've sold off most duplicates, but I probably won't have a list, at least not for US releases.  As for counting them... hehe I sort of don't want to know!

I used to take a photo of everyone and name it, and then put it in respective folders on my computer. But I haven't done so in about a year, and keeping up with all these G4 doubles of the same pony isn't helping. I think I have about 600 something, G1, G3 and G4. And 2 G2 babies.

Years ago, I printed out a very useful list of ponies and accessories that I'd found online. I kept it updated for a long time, even writing down whether the ponies were part of my childhood collection, car boot sale finds etc. I also wrote down when I'd bought them and did the same for all duplicates. It was a very good system, but it broke down when I emigrated to the UK and left nearly my whole collection in storage. These days, I've still got the list, so I could tell you about most ponies I've got in storage, and I have an idea of who I've got here in the UK, but I couldn't tell you more than that.

Okay so since this topic started I made a spread sheet of my g1s (about 50) and bought the G1 collector's book to help me keep track of everyone's  assessories. I don't feel the need to keep track of my G3 since I only buy those when I find ones with interesting symbols and my G3.5 and g4s are only of unique characters keeping them down to a small number.

I used to keep track... it's a bit hard now. I mostly keep a meticulous count of my G1s, using the Collector's Inventory to keep track of ponies, petites, stickers, accessories. I'm probably going on around 400 G1s now? About 20 G2s, maybe a couple hundred G3s, no clue on G4s.

On my computer there is a list of each species in order as well as the order in which I got them. Unfortunately my computer hasn't been replaced yet.
