DC Metro Area Collectors......
« on: July 21, 2016, 08:59:29 AM »
UPDATE 9.16.16:
We are tentatively set on a southern MD location (Waldorf) and a late October date. Please post or PM if you would be interested in joining!

Hey! I just had a couple collector friends visiting from out of town and realized I really miss just connecting with other people in the hobby.  I've met up with individual collectors several times, but I'm wondering if there would be any interest in something like a semi regular club or gathering? Nothing fancy or formal, just get together at a coffee shop, mall, park something casual so those of us with kids have options to entertain them.

What do you guys think? Anyone interested? Thoughts? Ideas?

I'm in northern Virginia BTW.

I'm in Minnesota, but this deserves a bump! I love the idea of Pony People meeting in a park and letting the kids run while they discuss ponies.
Thanks so much to Calico_Star for her beautiful work on my Avatar!

Im in the area, in PA school at the moment but have a few weeks off in August.  It would be fun to have a local group for trades/swaps....meet up and bring extras to swap. :)

Bump! I know there are more people in this area, feel free to pm me if you are a lurker and prefer to stay low profile.

New idea, we could just do a big swap/sale thing car boot style, meet in a parking lot on a weekend and pop our trunks! With the heat as of late I'd advocate for doing this in the fall personally.

I guess I'm in the somewhat south west PA area. I work in western MD and I'm originally from there. Yeah I like the idea of bringing extra ponies/toys. I guess I would be interested if not too far away. I am more of a rural driver lol!

yes hopefully we can arrange a meet-up by labor day... I know summer is fast disappearing, cannot believe it's end of July already!  karentheunicorn has spearheaded efforts before and I've been chatting up the possibility so pinging this so I can say essentially yes I would love a swap especially as I am trying to downsize :-)

I'm in Richmond and am always happy to get together!  I need some notice though as I work on the weekends so I have to make sure I can get the day off.  Any chance we could throw something together for Labor Day weekend?    We could meet at a restaurant to hang out then do a carboot sale in the parking lot.  ;)

If its not TOO far of a drive for me, I'd been down to come meet up...I live in Delaware, so it'd be a trek for me, but I am close with FarDreamer and if need be could stay with her if things ran over late...

Folks are always welcome to stay with me if needed, as long as you're ok with the 4 dogs.  It'll be my last chance to give pony room tours too as I'm likely moving soon and they'll be in boxes for awhile.

Sorry I'm just seeing this! I'm in Southern Maryland and I would love to meet up with some fellow collectors. I honestly don't have much to sell that anyone would want (lol) but I'm always willing to shop :)

I work full time during the week so weekends would be best for me!

Humm, we have a scattered group so far, South PA, South MD, North and central VA, DE. Is there a location we can all work with? Would southern MD work for everyone? If there was enough interest we could do a few meet ups in different locations?

If southern MD works can anyone help with ideas for a meet up location?

I'm right in Waldorf so about a half hour outside of DC. I'm sure there are some places around here where we could meet up. Depending on the amount of people I could maybe offer up my house. It would take some planning depending on what we would all want to do. Just a general meet up/buying/selling/trading or if we would want some activities etc. along with that. :)

As long as it's within a 3 hour radius, I'm good.  Labor Day weekend is the only weekend I'm going to have off in a good long while though.  Don't schedule it around me, and I'll try to get a different day off if you do it another weekend.  I say, keep it simple and make it easy on whoever ends up hosting.  Things like asking everyone to bring card tables and folding chairs if they have them, do potluck for food, chip in for pizza, or eat at a restaurant.  Games, activities, and cute decorations are great, but if it stresses out the host/hostess, then no need for them.  Hanging out, getting to know each other, and some trading and selling, that's what you really need for a fun day.  And if you need prizes for something, ask everyone to donate at least one, no need for the hostess to spend their own money on it.
