Home made Flutter Wings

Are there any moldable plastics that can be used to make flutter wings?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I acquired my first set of flutter wings last week and had wondered the same thing. They have lost their tabs so can't be attached, buy I had wondered about how you would go about using them as a mould.

I am sure I have seen a post or a tutorial somewhere about making them from empty plastic bottles, maybe in the tutorials in the arena gallery? But I don't think they are exactly the same.

Also I have seen before that a woman in Germany used to make replicas that looked near identical but I don't think she does anymore....I always wondered why she was the only person in the world that had figured out how to do it. Pkw does all kinds of beautiful custom wings but none quite as exact, I would have thought if anyone would have figured it out she would have.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I would also love to know the answer and if you find out how do do it I am sure you would get loads of commissions lol!

Ebay has some from Germany you can order, but they are too expensive.  I do a wide range of crafts and I feel like I should be able to do this on my own.  I found the soda bottle method, but they're not similar enough for me.  I'll let you know if I figure out a method.

There has to be one!  I might ask about moldable plastic sheets at the craft store.  I'm sure there are some that are used for jewelry.

Wonder if a 3-D printer would work?

Anyone have one?

The lady in Germany will still post on ebay if you send her an ebay message. I waited months and months for her to list new ones and finally sent her a message and she was happy to put up a listing. Pricey, yes, but she does such a great job it's worth it!

Starlight Studios makes them. Someone  on deviantart had a tutorial, complete with your needed materials, I'll go see if I can rack it down.

Note: This is not My tutorial.

Skylocket's tutorial is the one I would use, too. :)

I've bought several pairs from the German lady. All my pony friends that see my flutters (in person!) think they're original!

I would say that the 3D printer idea is rather iffy. It all depends on the material and thickness.. plus the price you are willing to pay. We has a 3D printer in our library, however, it only works with PLA plastic and we don't have any translucent material for it.
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

Aaages, ago, I traded baits in HTF poses for a couple of sets of Gypsywildflower wings. They were pretty epic  sadly she's not really in the pony community any more.

My partner, being a man that works with plastic moulding every day, has taken casts of a pair of flutter wings. That's all he HAS done though atm, but I am hopeful that he might be able to figure something out one day.....
Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!
