Getting the stripes to line up isn't hard :) I've just rehaired a custom Daddy Sunbright with nylon that I'd dyed.

These ponies are all so gorgeous!

Does anyone know any good tutorials on gradient dying or any recommendations on what type of dye to use?

I use Rite dye :) I make up small amounts of dye up in jam jars and just dip loops of hair in :)

Wow, they're all really nice but I love lofty and starshine.

I'm too lazy to even rehair. I have bald ponies, bad chops that I've finished removing the hair from, and wish I had the motivation to order and hair them in some fun colours. Instead I end up selling them on every few years as I feel bad for them sitting in my bald box. :(

This makes me wonder if I should have my Sunbright rerooted with dyed hair. Her hair is all frizzy and cut anyway.

Really?  that's pretty cool!  I assumed you'd have to rehair the pony first and then dye it.  Though you are an AMAZING customiser, PKW!

 aw thank you :)

If the dye was a paste you could paint it on the hair of a a rehaired pony. I'd be a bit worried about accidentally ruining a full body repaint or symbols and eyes.

I've dyed my own nylon hair. I use acid dyes since I'm a yarn dyer and have them all available and they work on nylon. I dyed the hair first and then rehaired her and didn't have problems with the horizontal stripes lining up. I did have that weird batch of hair where some strands wouldn't take the dye but it still turned out nice. I dip dyed this batch but I hand painted another batch with a sponge brush and haven't used the hair yet. Not hard to do at all.
