Pony clothes pattern?
« on: November 18, 2015, 06:15:05 AM »
I have been unable to find any patterns for pony clothes.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have an idea of where to look?
I don't need anything too specific, just a coat or vest. I can modify from there.

Thanks ahead of time!

What generation are you hoping to make clothes for?  G1 has a lot of clothes already made so they are the easiest I think.  I've had good luck taking old damaged pony clothes apart and using them to make patters by adding seam allowances to the pieces.  So if you want to start with a base and make changes I'd suggest trying that.  There may be existing patterns online though.  I haven't seen and and would be interested in trying them out if there are.

I just need to make a coat for one of these: http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/en/htsusa/-987920220

I just do not have the foggiest idea as how to start a pattern for a pony.

Are you hoping for something removable, or will it be sewn on? That makes a big difference in the design. If you're just going to sew the vest on, the easiest way to make  a pattern is the grab some soft, flexible paper or really cheap felt and fold it around the pony, then sketch out your ideas on it.

Cut the shape out, try it on the pony, adjust and repeat until you get what you want. Remember to add space for seam allowances when making the finished pattern, tho', since doing it this way usually means a close fit, and you might not have room to sew the pieces together.
Felt is usually the best choice for a first attempt, since it doesn't need to be hemmed, and is easy to sew.

If you look up or get your hands on some old Pony Wear, it might give you a better idea of where to start.  :)

You would also be able to pick up G3 clothing at a relativey cheap price. It will allow you to reverse pattern something :)
