Need recommendations for treats from London!
« on: October 11, 2015, 11:48:53 PM »
So my hubby is in London right now in a business trip, and I'm wondering if anypony can give me a recommendation for any goodies I should ask him to bring home to me! I do have a gluten allergy, so I can't have anything with wheat, barley, or malt. So probably looking for things more in the sweets side of goodies. Would love to know of any London/England unique goodies that would be fun to try! Thanks! :D

Ask him to get you some Lindt chocolate -- it's the BEST chocolate on Earth   The  VERY best of their confections is the 'Lindor' truffle ;)

Not edible treats, but the Lush on Oxford St. that opened earlier this year has exclusive bath products and cosmetics that are supposed to be pretty awesome.

Mopthebunny - I forgot about Lindt, my hubby's colleagues have brought some home before. Although I think it might have had wheat in it, but I'll ask him to check!

SwiftheartBabbit - thanks for the recommendation! Bath products are always fun!

Smarties are awesome, and I don't think they would have any of your allergens?  They are like sixlets, or M&M's, but the shell is harder and they don't have that chalky taste.

Interesting! In the US we have a candy called Smarties but it's a tangy fruity cans that is very chalky. I'll have to tell my hubby to check those out!

What about some tea? :)

I only drink herbal tea, is there a variety popular in England?

yep, USA Smarties and UK Smarties are nowhere similar; I got some UK ones in a swap, once.  Sometimes when I go to a candy store in San Francisco, I can find them, and I make them last as long as I can!

Cadbury Chocolate Eclairs, Crunchie, and Flake bars are some of my favourite chocolates. Curly Wurly is fun to try too if you like caramel. The allergen section on the website doesn't mention gluten. :wonder:

Wow, thanks aluke for the links, those were actually super helpful! And they all look gluten free! Yes! I actually have never seen anything Cadbury except the cream filled Easter eggs, which I'm not a big fan off. Those candies sound super yummy!

Lindt does have barely in, so it won't be suitable for you if you have any kind of wheat allergy. I'm coeliac so I spend my life reading food labels.

I'd recommend cadburys chocolate, the allergy lable is clear and most of it will be suitable for you. Flake, Crunchy, Curly Whirly and Chocolate Eclairs are nice and gluten free!

Thanks pinkkittywinks! Yes, celiac is what I have too. It's a pain it I'm sure I'll be glad later in life for all the label reading when I don't develop a more serious illness. Good to know about Cadbury, they dis have clearly labeled ingredients on their website which is awesome.
