There are two ways you can actually 'scan' a pony figure for 3D printing...
There are 3D scanners but some of them make the scans imperfect.. and then there is something like 123D Catch.. with uses 360° photos to make up the 3D image... I have not tested this yet myself but I like the idea XD

Yeah I've tried both so far :) The actual scan was pretty accurate but came through in an STL format so you would have to edit the mesh individually or in a program that supports sculpting like Zbrush. And then I tried 123D Catch, and it is actually very very tricky to get an accurate model of the item, and it ends up pulling in part of the surroundings too lol
