Modifying and making styles! Feedback + thoughts?
« on: July 07, 2015, 06:18:28 PM »
Hey, remember me? The kid who always changes her style?
Jokes aside, I'm really trying to stick to one or two ways of drawing.

A lot of artists have their regular style and then a simpler one, if they're taking commissions they
usually offer specials of the simpler one for less money/limited time offers. I kind of wanna give it a shot but?

I would like to know how many would buy my work using examples? I whipped these up today.

Regular style, using canon characters. (Lady Waterfall, Twinkle Bloom, Streaky)

My own OCs using smaller, simpler, thicker lines. I've been using the term "smol" a lot lately
so that's what I'm calling this. (Kiwi Kiss, Lemon Lime, Sunny Side-Up)

My favorite is probably Twinkle Bloom (the pink pegasus). Lovely eyes on all your ponies with nice highlight and just enough eyelashes! Great symbol work on all your ponies too!

They are cute! I think your best bet is to offer them for commission - you wont know on uptake until its an option for people to consider :)

Well if you ask me, I don't think you need to limit your creativity by sticking to a certain style or technique unless you feel like it. :) Every artist should feel free to experiment until they find something they are happy with, and there's no need to stop there either. Most artists have a style that's constantly evolving, even if it remains recognisable and the changes are sometimes small.

Of course, when offering commissions it's helpful to have a number of categories that serve as a basis for pricing, but I don't think it needs to be based on "style" per se; rather the size, the techniques (and materials in traditional art), and the time used. That said, I'm not implying you should be using the word 'style' differently, only that there's nothing to worry about if you feel like you haven't quite found your style or if you keep changing things. :)

Both sets of examples are cute, and I think despite the differences they both clearly reflect your style! I like how expressive it is, and that shows even better in the new, "simpler" look. I adore Lemon Lime!

Ah thank you so much! Yeah I think I agree. I guess i just got caught up in seeing other artists have a very consistent style.
