Has anyone ever whitened a Cherry Treats? *Update 8/10*
« on: June 23, 2015, 05:20:57 PM »
Update 8/10:

Well, I soaked Cherry Treats in a bag of hydrogen peroxide for about two weeks, turning her over daily (since she floats and only one side would get the treatment), and she's whitened a little. The staining especially is less noticeable. It makes me want to get my hands on a really tan Cherry Treats and see how much hydrogen peroxide might improve her.  :wonder:

The treated Cherry Treats is on the left, and my original Cherry Treats is on the right, as before.

Before (with flash):

After (with flash; makes her look whiter than she is, but she is improved):

Before (without flash):

After (without flash):

Overall I'm pretty happy with how she turned out. She's a little whiter with less staining, and she still has lovely, silky hair. :)

Old Post:

I got a second Cherry Treats in a lot and I'm trying to get her as pretty as possible. She's turned ivory, as Cherry Treats will, and has some staining. So -- has anyone ever used any treatment on a Cherry Treats and successfully gotten her white again? I know that she shouldn't be sunfaded. Would a bleach solution or a hydrogen peroxide soak be in order, or maybe RemovZit? (never used that latter method). Any advice would be appreciated!

She's on the left in these pictures (my collection Cherry Treats is on the right). It's hard to show her color in the pictures so I took one with the flash and one without. She's not that bad, just ivory-colored, but it would be nice to get her as white as possible.

*edit* Her hair looks stringy because this is just after her bath

removzit isn't something I'll ever use.it can bleach ponies years later, and yellow white ponies.    There's a story right now in the nirvana section how 5 years after having removzit used on it, a pony started having problems. :(

Ooh, okay, I looked that up. Don't want that happening to Cherry Treats! Not sure what it would look like on a whiteish pony, but probably not good. Any other ideas?

Definitely do NOT use any kind of acne cream product!

Have you tried sunfading in a tub of hydrogen peroxide on top of a mirror?  I don't know if I'd risk it with Cherry Treats but it does lighten and brighten ponies.  However since her color changes due to the fragrance oils in her plastic, there really is not much you can do.  :(  Love her as an ivory Cherry Treats, perhaps!

Cherry Treats can get sunburn... If you're going to attempt some sun time keep a very close eye on her.

Hmm, I kinda think that as Cherry Treats usually is, this one isn't all that bad. I know it's frustrating not being able to restore, but she could actually tan with sun and turn worse  I think I would leave her as she is.

She is one of those ponies that is really prone to sun burning.  I asked the same question a few months back but decided to try it anyway even though several people told me she would probably burn.  Even after watching her like a hawk she still turned brown in the places that were exposed to the sun.   I have another brown Cherry Treats in my trade tote and I am not even attempting to whiten her but  offering her as is.

Why, thank you. :)

Yeah -- she isn't as brown as some, so you have a point, Doedeardarling. I'm going to have to think about it. She's really nice besides her body color; she was part of someone's well-cared-for childhood collection. I'll either leave her as she is or try a hydrogen peroxide soak indoors out of the sun (I've done this before on a Starshine with good results; it took a while, though).

Has anyone ever just airbrushed or painted a pony back to white?  Your Cherry Treats is probably too lovely to go to such an extreme, as it's almost customising, but I think it would look really cool way to breathe new life into ponies who are otherwise unfixable.

She is just one of those girls you have to take a gamble on. If she has already gone a bit of a creamish shade then she will probably all out burn when sun faded but if you watch her carefully perhaps it is worth the risk you could catch her at that point between burn and fade. Personally, for me, she is not one I would ever risk.

I would also say that her Hong Kong version is the worst - she is often discoloured and will burn. The China version is usually easier to find white and will hold up better under a sun fade. As a note, the HK Cherries I dont believe was ever a true and pure white - all ponies made HK tend to be on the creamier end of the spectrum than China manufacture.

the problem with this is they don't get marked, and then when the next person goes to clean them... :/  I have a white baby someone painted the leg of, and years later when I was cleaning it, the paint started to come off, so now I have a pony who has a grey leg instead of the NM pony I started with.  Word of mouth(telling the buyer) doesn't really work either, since the person may forget to mention it if *they* sell it years later.
