ripped plugs, need some advice
« on: June 01, 2015, 10:57:57 AM »
Long time no posting in customs :)

I've been working off and on on a custom G1 AJ. I was rerooting her in mohair. Unfortunately her mane ripped completely. I don't think the mohair will hold now even with gluing. Does anyone have any experience with maybe using brushed yarn and gluing that in?

I would glue the ripped plugs and make some new holes close beside the old plugs =)

Hmmm. . .  Sounds tricky.

Maybe carefully threading the pulled yarn/mohair through the ripped plugs?  Maybe if you use some really heavy gluing at the base of the hair, inside the head, to form like a base or something that's wider than than the rip so it can't fall out??  That's all I can think.

I've been wondering about this because I have a bait whose entire row of neck plugs has been ripped up by a previous customiser. I wondered if it would be possible to glue some latex or something (a doll scalp? maybe fabric?) into the inside and then rehair through that?

Thats a clever idea, i wonder too if it would work! I myself when i have a ripped hairline have to just glue glue glue, it tends to work. If you end up with glue showing you can do a fancy bun? or some style that will hide it?  But with mohair, that tends to hide the hairline pretty well!
