I asked my mum about the packaging (I was pretty young at the time and couldn't remember) and she said she got a bunch of them for us while she worked in a supermarket.  (perks of the job!)  They came in plastic bags inside big easter eggs.  Wish I'd had the foresight to take photos back then!   oh well :)
