Why do you find so many ponies with buzzed forelocks?
« on: March 30, 2015, 10:34:37 AM »
It just occurred to me how many ponies you see with either cut or buzzed forelocks. I'm assuming this was done by children and not collectors ;) my question is, why? I can understand kids wanting to cut all of the hair, but why just the forelock? Why is that seemingly so common? I don't get it xD

Maybe to make them look more like real horses? I really don't know why

Maybe because they didn't like the hair hanging in the pony's eyes? Or else they wanted to give them bangs and went a little short :P . I don't know, but I certainly have seen my fair share of forelock trims too!

I have no idea. I never cut my ponies hair or my barbie dolls hair...
Seems like some kids do this and others dont :P

Something I wondered too. I have quite a few ponies with lovely long hair and no forelocks

Kids like cutting things.

I can't explain it since I would never have done that to my ponies- but then I knew my mom would have freaked out if I had.

On the other hand I know my nephew is always cutting things (his sisters' dolls, their ponies, his own hair).  Personally, I can't see how he could possibly have access to scissors after so many mishaps- but that is another discussion...

So I guess my answer is ... parenting.

I have no clue, my Fireball came with a buzzed forelock, so I rehaired that tiny bit and he looks great now.

Also I've noticed a few ponies with mohawks.  My Mimic has one.
Looking for Mountain Boys Thundercloud and Sunburst.  ANY condition at all wanted!

I have a vague memory of me, with a pony and scissors.
But I think it ended with me cutting my finger instead.

I blame the episodes of The Glass Princess that taught kids that pony hair magically grows back:P And dream beauties that came with scissors. ..silly hasbro.

They probably wanted to see what it feels like to cut a pony's hair and it's easier to cut in the front of the head then in a random spot or the bottom of the neck, more than likely!

I'm pretty sure it's because the forelock  hangs right over the eyes sometimes, so kids probably wanted to get it out of the way. I would have never done it myself but I can understand it. Always such a shame to find a nice pony with that issue!

Huh, I've noticed that forelock trims seem common but I guess I never really thought about WHY...
all these ideas seem to make sense, though.

LOL...the truth behind "kids like cutting things"

I think its the desire to give a pony a proper fringe/bangs combined with not blocking eyes. As a kid I seem to remember those things being important...and a lot of sindy dolls suffering.
