Thanks everyone!  I'm in the process of making more.  I'd like to adapt the pattern to make an ear hole so they sit better on the pony's head. 


If you're interested in trying your hand at it, the pattern and tutorial I used is available from Milnery in Miniature : http://www.cynthiahoweminiatures.com/hatmaking1.htm   There are lots of patterns for sale for 8$ each here http://cynthiahoweminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=149&zenid=203f212cb84c73ca308bcd53813bfbeb and the pattern for this hat was: August Series 1: http://cynthiahoweminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=149&products_id=1387.  The pattern also includes a really cool recipe for faux porcelain using cold creme and glue.  You make the clay and color it with paint and then mix the colored clay with more and more uncolored clay to make shades of the color for the shading effect on the flowers.  The pattern recommended oil paints, but I used acrylics and it worked fine.   This clay is really fun to work with, air dries and the left overs can be kept for a long time if they are put in an air tight container and wrapped with plastic wrap.  It is brittle though so while it works fine for small things and flowers, it wouldn't be appropriate for a large sculpting project.  I found the patterns to be very detailed and recommend the site to anyone interested in learning to make the little hats.  It was really fun!
