Depends on the game.

Link only for anything Zelda, and ill usually go with Dawn or Tati (Tatiana) for pokemon games.  If im playing something rpg fantasy based, ill use some OCs :)

Whenever I play Pokemon, I always call the trainer characters 'Emery', as that's my middle name and I think it sounds kinda groovy (mainly because I picked it myself and legally changed it, my original name was pants by comparison.) When I used to play Final Fantasy games, I'd usually try to come up with silliest names possible, usually to outdo my older sister. I think one character ended up being called Gorilla and it was a tradition to always have at least one chocobo on FF7 called Anakin. XD

If a character is suppose to be "me" I name her Katryn or Katallina. My actual name is Kathleen, but since I play a lot of fantasy games, I see no harm in amping up the cool factor a little. :)

If it's not suppose to be me directly, I often go with Sarenna or Kesyl, depending on whether the character is male or female. They're the names of the heroine and hero of my first novel. Other names I use include Cait, Isabelle, Amelia, Avish, Kyden and Zakariah.

Link is always Link. Ryu in the BoF series is always Ryu (I replay those games a lot  )

In anything else I'm either BC or Kyle. My God name has always been Gatherac in sim games where you're more of a power or presence rather than one character, like in Black & White.

Most games I use my screen name Tilas on.... just cause that's what I always use. Sometimes I use the name Laken though.

Having never played Zelda before I put my real name... but it only has 8 characters so I was called Christin. Somehow it made me feel like a different person just by missing the A :P

I name my characters Asobi pretty often and generally if it's a multiplayer type game like an MMO I prefer very short names, my favorite of which is Jinx and usually the first I'll go for if untaken. Almost always the names I go for are first short words like Jinx, Itsy, Zing, and so on. After that I'll go for short 'name' names like Anya, Aly, etc. I'd stick with just one or two consistently, probably Asobi and Jinx but unfortunately they usually end up already taken and I have to mix it up a bit.

My own name, or the male character's default name. (i.e., Link.) With Secret of Mana, it's random. I've played through it lots of time but not for some years now.

For Pokemon AS, I was naming all my pokes after Arizona city names or desert words, or the like.

Usually Kari or XIII. For other characters, it depends, but it's usually whoever my favorite character is at the time.

With Zelda games I almost always use either Huck or Lexi, both based on RP characters I've had for years, with other games I can spend forever thinking of what to call my character, and usually my pokemon have a wide variety of names based usually on whatever pops into my head at that moment. xD

Almost any time I have a nameable character with a default name, I go with that.  When there is no default, I usually just go with Wilhelm. I don't know exactly how that got to be my go-to name whenever I have to name a character, though.

Other times I have been more creative.  Several I can't really mention, since they're likely not appropriate for here, since they weren't appropriate for the servers I was using them on as well (I made them when I was 13-16, you can guess what kinds of names I was coming up with).

Some of the ones that come to mind would be my character from Fallout 3, 1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport, and my party from Final Fantasy II (the actual FFII, not IV), Jurgen, Katya, her brother Tina, and Lenny.

I think there have also been a few I've named Geoff.

It depends on the game... Games where you don't customize the protagonist aside from their name, I stick with the default. More role-playing oriented games, though, I either create an original character for that world (settings like in Dragon Age) or use an existing character that I already regularly roleplay as (currently doing this in Fallout 3 and New Vegas).

I name my characters Quill or Juice a lot.  I'm not entirely sure why.  However, if I like the name the characters start with they generally get to keep it.

It depends on the game.  I'm ALWAYS Link in Zelda games and in the old Pokemon games, I was always Ash.

Usually it's Kaeldre or Kael, but if it's an MMO I'll have characters named Kaeldre, Narcissa, or Arcade.
