Baby Presents!
« on: March 04, 2015, 11:29:56 AM »
I need help! One of my friends just informed everyone that she's pregnant with twins.  I'm so excited for her!  I'm sure she'll be having a baby shower here soon, but I want to get something that a lot of people wouldn't think to get.

When you were pregnant (or your significant other was), what kinds of things do you wish you had gotten at a baby shower?

I plan on getting a giant box of diapers for her, in a bigger size. I'm sure a lot of people will get the newborn sizes for her.

Never been there, but if I were, books. Nobody ever seems to bring books to baby showers and I know I always wanted to read to my kids from the second they existed. Classic children's books I think would be awesome shower gifts. *shrugs* of course I'm a bit odd....

You can never, ever, have enough of underclothes! While getting cutey outfits is one thing, no one thinks to get the singlets, thermals etc that babies go through everytime they poop.
EVERYTIME.

I'd also look into a Multiple Birth club in your area and see what they recommend!

I second underclothes! My sisters couldn't get enough. Also think about what season it'll be when they're born, if it's winter think of thermals, if it's summer think long sleeved body suit things.

You always have singlets or long sleeves under the pretty tops (even tshirts), remember babies are too young to control their temperature so they'll always need to have layers. Plus it makes changing them easier.

When I went to my sister's baby showers, there wasn't much for mum - think something along the lines of gift certificates for cleaning, cooking or food deliveries.

Socks and booties! Socks always get lots and little feet need to be kept warm.

Also get a larger size for them to grow into, but remeber to think about the season it's no good getting a summer dress if in 6 months it will be winter :)

Perhaps get something nice for mum too, some nice body cream or bubble bath. Her body will need some love after the trial of pregnancy. Just make sure they don't smell too strong and are suitable for use in pregnancy ;)

Such great ideas! Thanks a ton, guys and gals!  I also plan on visiting her to give her a small break, let her nap or shower or whatever.  I told her that I'll probably never have another baby, so I have a lot of maternal love to give. (I have a soon to be 11 year old son, I'm missing those baby days!)

She really likes all natural items, so I'm sure I can pop on over to the local flea market, see what I can find.  Underclothing seem like a great idea. I was also thinking about medicines. Everyone always thinks about diaper creams and such. But, what about cold medicines, things for constipation or diarrhea? Teething gel?

I'd like to get practical things, so she won't have to worry about if a kiddo is sick, she'll have to run out. She'll already have it.

I always enjoy making baby presents. I've made burp cloths using cute flannel prints and microfiber cloths. I've made tie dye onesies, fleece blankets, and I was going to make a plaque with the baby's name on it, but never actually did it.

Also baby Motrin/Tylenol/teething gel/gas drops maybe.  Cold meds not so much for babes, but the baby version of Vicks?  Trying to think what else I had around at that age.   I bought a ton of books that I had loved as a child when I was preggie with The Mouse.   Cold air humidifier in case of crouping?

Here's something practical: assuming she is going to nurse them, how about a supply of nursing pads? I was very "leaky" after I had my babies and I needed lots of those.

I have to second both the practical suggestions and the bigger size clothes.

When I'm baby buying I usually go for either a woollen singlet or eating dishes for baby/toddler, and if I am buying clothes, I always buy at least 6-9 months onwards. It's so easy to get inundated with cute little baby clothes that bubs will grow out of in a heartbeat!

Thanks a ton everyone!  When I was pregnant, my dad and stepmom bought me the cutest wicket hamper and filled it with items.  So, I'm going to write down everyones suggestions and see what I can find. :D

Nursing pads seem like a great idea too! I wouldn't have thought of that!  This lady is going to want for nothing. LOL.  They're due in July 15th. So, winter clothing would probably would great! And they'll be going on sale here soon. :D

I second something for mom.  Mom always gets overlooked.

Maybe something to cover herself if she needs to get the door?
