Ice Ice Baby
« on: February 23, 2015, 09:53:22 AM »
To say it is has been a little chilly round these parts is an understatement.  So cold the Great South Bay of Long Island has frozen over, it is salt water.   Here are some fun photos and yes that is Clonecommander all bundled up walking on water.  Feel free to share your icy photos!

Oh and here are some from Mill Pond, Sayville, sadly Clone has not been able to do anymore work here for her Gold Award because of the cold and the snow cover on the area she was working on.  Hoping that by Spring break it melts so she can get done!

The water "fall" at the end of the pond has some fun ice formations.

We had ice on the trunks of the trees yesterday, that was cool, should add those in.  Or the ice crystals from the beach, or the Pintails trying to walk on the ice, dang the list is endless with this weather.

Quite the contrast to the sticky humid summer where I am!

Sigh sadly the cold claimed the life of one of the two giant kio that live in the pond.  Found his body today partially on shore when we went for our walk.  Hopefully the other one who is a little larger shall make it though this weather okay.  We also spotted a dead goose, which makes three dead birds this year due to the weather we have spotted on the pond.

We did have some good water fowl sitings to make up for it though, Common Mergansers!

Ooo, pretty awesome!

So I've looked through a majority of my pictures <_<; I don't seem to take many icey pictures.
I have this one from 3 years ago... and if you squint, you can see Lake Erie frozen over, some rocks, and a ton of seagulls. [ X_x; I refused to take my husband's advice, and used *really* junky film. He has some shots taken the same day that were pretty amazing. Mine... ugh...]

I have this snap dragon too from 2010...

Lovely pics. We have our share of ice around here. Was -30F with the windchill today. My car had some lovely icicles coming off of it this morning... We also have a nice ice road for the winter across a local lake. I could never brave driving across it, but a lot of people do.

Beautiful!

It hasn't been very cold where I live, though. Today was probably the coldest day we've had all winter long, it didn't make it out of the low 20s for a high.

Frozen bodies of water are a rare sight where I live, and they most certainly aren't solid enough to stand on when frozen. Except for maybe that one time it got down to like -21, but even then I wouldn't have chanced it. xD
