MLP websites
« on: February 19, 2015, 03:59:29 PM »
Do collectors no longer have their own websites? Is that like not a thing anymore? I never see them.. People post their want/trade lists on forums, a few even have a blog on tumblr, but I never seem to find collector websites anymore.

I had one on Webs.com for several years. Rather than continue to pay for the upgraded account, I moved my collection page to Facebook (link in signature) where I could use as much space as I needed without a charge. I have always wanted to build an awesome MLP website, but without the web design know-how and domain space, I don't think a real web site is in the cards for me.

Have you looked at Weebly? They have great templates to use. That's where my site is!

I recently started setting one up for myself on Blogger:

http://rainbowstable.blogspot.com

So far, I have an "About Me," a page with my contact info, a page with a list of resources, and most of my wishlists.  Once I have my Home Sweet Home properly cleaned up, I will start making actual posts.  I find that for myself, I prefer a blog style rather than trying to create an actual website.  :work:

I think a lot of people have found easier options than keeping up with their own site.  Use to be there weren't many options if you wanted to share pics of your collection or art.  Now there are all kind of photo sharing sites with built in communities like deviantart or Facebook.

I don't have specific collection site for MLP, but I do have a page for all my collecting (includes MLP). Unfortunately I'm waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy behind on updating it. It might take years of full time work to update it completely.

Very true! There are so many options out there now. Oh the days before deviantart and all we had was Elfwood and you had to wait a month+ for them to post the art you submitted.

I have a blog about all my hobbies, but not one that is purely pony related. I had a dedicated young adult book blog for nearly three years. While it was (modestly) successful, the pressure to stay focused on one thing and to produce content in a timely manner actually damaged my joy of the books. So now I'm slowly building up my new blog around my hobbies, rather than building a hobby around a blog. To each their own, though. (Not linking atm because I've barely started the thing and it's not ready for public viewing yet.)

I've been considering setting up a pony site since I quit blogging about the herd on Tumblr (rude comments, oy); it's just a matter of working up the motivation. It would be nice if individual websites made a comeback, it's always a joy to see the way that people put their own personality into web layouts. That said, I can understand how people would be put off of making websites by how much of a pain the coding aspect is. :/

If anyone gives you grief over posting MLP on tumblr, tell them to go play in the road. I ignore any rude comments or asks on my blog. No tolerance.

I also had a website for awhile but I found upkeep too hard. I have a blog now that I update weekly, on weekends.

I have a blog which, although not dedicated to ponies, does feature a lot of MLP stuff.  I'm over three YEARS behind with it now but working hard to catch up! :P (Link in my signature)

I also have this website - http://mylittleponyrescuehome.webs.com/ - which is a kind of nostalgic look at my pony collecting history as well as a way to record which ponies I've sold.  I want to add more things to the site as well (childhood fanfiction series, pony checklists etc.), but again, never seem to find the time!

I've recently started a Facebook page for my pony herd too - https://www.facebook.com/mylittleponyrescuehome?fref=ts.  As others have said, it's a much easier (and free!) way to share photos of my collection with as much space as I need.
