Skull Stag for wiccanpony1 horns and skulls swap

So I will start by saying this is my second time getting to send to wiccanpony1 and she is so much fricking fun to shop and make for. I feel like if there wasn't an ocean between us we'd probably hang out!

WP1 had Hannibal raven stag on her likes list and I tried that first but it just didn't seem like enough to me. SO then I tried adding in elements of Hannibal which just looked ridiculous

So then I turned to the spirit supernatural side of it. I love the concept of the raven stag but it needs more, and so the skull stag was born. (I apologize for it not having a more cleaver name)

I wanted to create a stag that was like a legend a creature that walks the forests guiding the spirits of fallen forest creatures to their final resting place. I guess like a reaper, but I wanted more of a beauty element as oppose to a creep element (I sent plenty of creepy in the twisted fairy tale swap box so I wanted this one to be more elegant.)

So I sculpted the antlers little by little adding tiny dots of clay them smoothing and baking, and then did a last layer and carved in the ridged, baked again and painted.

I wanted this pony to be thought of like fog, I imagine those who see the skull stag noting its silence and how smooth it walks, almost floating, and blending with the fog itself.

I wanted to feet wooly and blue, like that little strip of blue that you see in the horizon when the sun is down. The next layer would need to be the color of actual fog, wispy and scattered while the top dark and black to blend into the night. I imagine on a very dark night all many would see is what appears to be a floating skull.

Hair had to be dark as well but I figured I wanted it to be something other than just black, so I went with a dark blue as well. No symbol, I battled with this for a while but I just couldn't figure out anything that fit well, so I figured simplistic beauty was best.

The paintwork on the guy is very beautiful(even more so in RL) It really dose look like mist! the sculpting not just the horns but chest and feet is so clean its unreal,I love love love his face. I dont know how you keep coming up with the amazing back story's for you ponies but they always make me feel even more connected to my new customs. Thank you again for sending me another AMAZING swap box:)

What a wonderful concept and great execution! I love the antlers and the mist inspired paintjob, the skull face and the fact that the eyes retain their G4 style cuteness even if the concept is a bit spooky and more "serious". I bet in a dark room the illusion of a floating skull is perfect. And you have such a great attention to details; the backdrop, story and the drawing are like the cherry on top!
