The "Main Characters" of the G1 MLP Cartoon?

I'd add Buttons as well because she had a major part in the movie and she's part of the trio of unicorns (Fizzy, Gusty and Buttons) in about three maybe four episodes.

Gusty windwhistler Posey shady but I also liked whizzer powder and truly in their episodes

I wanted to put Wind Whistler and Fizzy on there, but felt it was a case of favouritism on my part. The way I see it the main characters were:

- Gusty
- Buttons
- Noth Star
- Lofty
- Magic Star
- Shady

Because of their roles and frequnecy in the show.

Though come to think of it, I remember seeing Shady more than Posey. Hmmmm.

Tough i think all of the ponies are the main charachters.

I went with the characters i remember first when thinking of the G1 cartoon. And ended up with:
Gusty
Fizzy
Windwhistler
Whizzer
Magic Star
Sweetstuff

A lot of those featured in some of my favourite episodes as a kid which is probably why they come to my mind first. They aren't really my favourites though....other than Magic Star and Sweetstuff who i absolutely loved in the G1 cartoon

For me, it's Gusty and Galaxy (unicorns), Surprise and Lofty (pegasus) and Lickety Split and Shady (Earth) as those where the ones I remember from more than one episode.

Their personalities did stick out to me, but they didn't have "more" of it than any other ponies. Fizzy was one of my faves, but Morning Glory was the pony I like the most since a young age. Still they didn't get enough attention to "feel" as if they were main characters.

None of them got enough attention (Sundance didn't even talk in the actual series).  It was really which ponies managed to make the most of their exposure.

Shady is only in a few episodes, the glass princess is the only one I can think of where she really starred. I know she was seen in a later episode (maybe two episodes) where she was in a earth pony jumping contest.

Gusty was in a a lot of episodes, but you hardly saw her in background like you did with ribbon or buttons!

I loved the diversity of the cast of ponies! I wish there were more in the G4 show! So they could all adventure together!

The one that most comes to my mind is Wind Whistler.

I hate to end it there, but unlike many others here, I didn't watch the show during my childhood and actually marathoned it several months ago. Perhaps I'll have a better perspective after a second watching. I still think I'll like Wind Whistler the best, though.

There was a ton. But Megan and her two siblings were the main focus, probably because they were ment to be the type of characters 80s kids wanted to be.

I don't remember all the ponies' names, because as I said, there was a lot.

I wanted to know then - just off the top of your head - who comes to mind first when you think of the G1 characters?  I thought a random sampling from people's memory banks might be an interesting insight as to who had the most memorable personalities! 

For me I chose Gusty/Fizzy, Wind Whistler/North Star, and Lickety Split/Shady.
