Which areas have the most ponies in thrift stores?

I experienced an interesting phenomenon with thrift stores recently.  I live in the suburbs of Maryland, and thrift stores here almost NEVER have ponies, I found a beaten up McDonald's MLP once, but that's it.  However, over the weekend, I went to the city with my aunt and found the ponyload at a thrift store, a total of 22 ponies from multiple generations.  Are cities generally better for finding ponies?  Where have some of your best finds been?

Savers usually has them, Goodwill sometimes does.
there's a local chain here called Deseret Industries, and they have them surprisingly often.

When I first saw the thread I thought it was meaning where Inside the store, sometimes you have to look outside the toy section because kids drag them around and then mom says "No"

I'm down here in nashville and I never find anything, downtown or suburbs...

Deseret Industries (DI) in Utah is usually where we find all of our ponies and sometimes at Savers. A lot of the time there won't be any ponies though...

We used to live within walking distance of the DI and we'd stand outside the doors before they opened and rush inside. One time we went there and they probably had a dozen or more G3s and that was the day we didn't have a lot of money. 

I really miss being able to walk to one.

I've made the best pony finds at a thrift store that specializes in children's supplies.

Every.  Single.  Morning.  I think it's mostly antiques shoppers/scalpers. 

Does this happen at other thrift stores?

I live in Northern Virginia (about an hour away from DC) and I never find ponies in thrift stores

I do find them thrifting here, not all the time but multiple times a year.

Australia seems to have A LOT of fakies.  We have two popular chains of discount stores that constantly have some for very cheap - I think there's a high fakie turnover in this country.

There used to be a lot here (it was amazing in the late 90's and early 00's), but it has thinned out the last few years.  I still usually run across a few on my rounds.  Maybe not every week, but usually at least once a month.  I even still find those amazing finds about once a year or maybe two.

I think I would be surprised if there was something as obvious as a clear cut pattern. But that being said, thrift/charity stores work the same as big scale retailers and if they have certain stores that sell certain products/categories better than others then they will ensure stock goes to them.

Perhaps in your area toys sell better in inner city areas?

I find a ton of G3s and G4s at my local thrift store in the beat-up part of town. I never really have any luck at Goodwills and everytime I go there its mostly furniture and beanie babies in the toy area.

I remember the first time my sister and I went to the DI a few minutes before they opened. We were so shocked! I guess I thought it was going to be empty which was rather silly of me. We always made a mad dash for the toy section and then we'd wait for them to bring out the carts.

I'm starting to suspect that there are a lot of collectors in my area who snatch up the ponies before I get to them honestly.

I see G3s in Savers by me often, but that's pretty much it.. none of the other generations..
