I second "Princess" being too common in name and rank. It still irks me that Celestia is not a "Queen". Why the hey is she not a queen? Just because queens are often written as villains? So what? Reclaim you rightful title, Celestia! I believe in you!
Yes, I think that the majority of us old school collectors find [cutie mark] quite off putting. I honestly would find it a bit more tolerable if it would not be used to refer to other generations besides G4. At least hasrro hasn't started calling them tooshie tattoos... ::shudders::
I just don't understand anything any more.

So while I accept its existence and know it belongs to those generations, I still use the word "symbol" (which is not even technically right for G1s to be fair) - its the old time collector in me unfortunately.

I call them alacorns (ala=wing, corn-horn). Calling them alicorns is a brony thing that Meghan McCarthy adopted. It's not a brony thing. While it can mean a unicorns horn, it has been used to describe a winged unicorn. Maybe it was meant to be "alacorn", but there is at least one book (I think it's a book) that used "alicorn" to mean "winged unicorn" long before FIM or the brony fandom was a thing.Celestia was also refered to as an alicorn by a Deviantart commenter before the show even aired.

Did they have a name for it?Honestly, the first time I heard it in the premiere for FiM, I did groan, but after a while it just becomes a thing. Of course, since G4 is my main thing, I became immune to all of the puns.

It was only with G3 that the phrase cutie mark popped up.
"We're the rump design crusaders!" Bhahaha
