Selling collection off questions and price check
« on: October 02, 2014, 05:42:03 PM »
Hey there pony friends.
So the time has come for me to sell my collection. It's been an amazing journey collecting for all these years and meeting some of my best friends. Collecting ponies helped me to realize my dream of becoming a nurse and now I'm in nursing school and unfortunately I'm gonna be needing to downsize in order to help with my school costs.
My ponies have been in storage for years now and I thought I should dig some out and take photos and see about proceeding with selling.
I'm selling everything so that includes ponies of all generations, rares, mail orders, comic con and fair exclusives, clothing accessories, you name it.
Curious to the pony folk on here - how should I go about it?  Ebay?  On here?  Lots?  Singles?
I never thought I would sell so I need some input.
Please let me know any thoughts you may have and here is a round of photos for price check:

Please excuse the awful quality of the photos.
This was taken by a dying phone in my parents basement so not the best of anything at all. Any input is appreciated and if you see anything you want, now is the time.

//Looks longingly at Oakly and the mountain boy

Anyways, I'd try eBay, possibly with a reserve price,  since I've seen rare ponies go pretty low lately, if you're looking to get rid of them quick.  You could probably put the not so rare ones in lots together.

Such lovely ponies, good luck with whatever you do!

oh such lovely ponies. If you have the time I would sell them individually, you have many rare ponies and so it is likely when you are selling them buyers will be likely to buy more common ponies also if they need them.
I would try selling them on here first for your asking price after a week or 2 I would start putting some on ebay with a reserve). If you haven't sold much on ebay as late i would look up there new policies as they are very much in favour of the seller should something go wrong).
There is also a facebook page called mlparena (it has nothing to do with this site), you could try there as ponies seem to sell fast but at the same time there is many time wasters and I don't know if its worth the hassle. If you did try to sell there I would for sure make sure you have a no holds policy and just expect half the people to disappear when you send them your paypal addy, its sad but its just the way it works on that site

As for some pcs assuming no flaws
Baby sapphire $75
pearly babies are around $15-25 each (they have dropped a lot in price but are just starting to pick up again
clover $25 ish
lighting $70-75
baby pearly mermaid $20-25 ish
I just brought a mexican prince for $35 I was the only bidder
The green argie baby is around $45-60 I believe but some have been selling for less atm
baby snoozy (I think that is her name, the green uk one) $70 ish
dazzleglow has been hitting some record highs of late, I would ask $30 for her
mimic $80-100

As for selling your collection I would offer them on the arena first simply because you won't get any scammer buyers and also there are no selling fees! :) Nhals prices look good to me :)

Takara fakies $35-40 each
Repro mib cp ponies $25
Mimic $85-90
Tales Clover $30

Congrats on getting in to nursing school! Thats amazing! I am sorry you are selling your collection but I hope you hang on to a couple to remember us all by :P

As for selling; as long as you have the time and the patience, I agree with simply listing singly initially and only dropping things into lots if you end up struggling to sell. From the pictures you posted, I am sure you will get tonnes of interest straight away!

The Arena allows you to skip ebay fees and means you can set prices as you wish or negotiate with buyers but ebay does give you a much bigger selling audience. Personally I prefer the Arena - much less hassle and a nicer class of buyer :)

Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I guess that's kinda bittersweet, getting into nursing but having to sell your collection. Congratulations anyway, I'm sure you'll be able to take it up again if you want to!

I agree with selling on here first and then trying Ebay. You shouldn't have any trouble selling most of those lovelies.

Do you have any idea how postage costs are to the UK at the moment? I'm interested in your Dazzle Glow there.  :)

As a hater of Ebay, I would advise other options (though Ebay allows you to use the auction method). I think a lot of people have success selling on the Arena itself (and that way you know your ponies are going to fellow pony lovers). I personally use Bonanza.com because it gives more payment options than just Paypal (in case someone doesn't like using Paypal). Some people also sell on Etsy.com, though I think selling on there is slower -- less people are looking for ponies on Etsy.

Personally, I'm eyeing your Clover, so whatever you decide I hope you let us know!
