Gardeners! What are you harvesting?
« on: September 13, 2014, 02:19:18 PM »
Ohhhhh my goodness!  I am dealing with about 20 5-gallon buckets of cooking apples right now...  and the sea buckthorn berries are waiting, as are the crabapples and the squash and the tomatoes.  I hope I can dehydrate a good deal of it, because it's just so much of a pain to deal with it all on the stovetop.

What about the rest of you?

Suggestions and tips to survive this food-preservation madness/race?

My parents planted a bunch fruit trees, so we have more than enough fruit to go around. (Too much in my opinion.) The only thing that will be harvested in the upcoming weeks are the persimmons.

We are dealing with Tomatopocalypse at the moment. Beans are done, beets are just starting. Lots of sweet corn. Onions are very hot this year! Blueberries are finishing up. Apples aren't ready yet, neither are pears. The apples and pears are all wild trees that grow along the canal, first come first serve.

Tomatoes, peppers, late cucumbers, a 3rd rotation of raspberries , parsley, rosemary, and three different thymes  :P as well as mints and basil. My fennel seed needs harvesting and I think my strawberries are trying to do something...  :hmm:  My figs are trying to give me fruit before the weather turns truly cold and that makes me happy!  :lovey:
Creatively cute and proud of it!  Have a very good day, [you]!  ^.^

I started way too late, i don't think my beans will produce anything. My tomatoes did ok, but my zucchini didn't grow hardly at all. I've harvested all my beets and the beet tops are delicious cooked like spinach with some onion and salt. Also i picked some squash blossoms and stuffed them with ricotta and dipped the flour and egg and fried them up nomnomnom!

Myself I only grow basil in my window, no garden. :(
My parents had a zucchini invasion about one month ago. It's amazing how many recipes can be just filled up with those ...

I would be picking some delicious yellow pears... The bees, yellow jackets, hornets (evil little creatures) have taken it upon themselves to dine. They weren't ready on Friday (it was rainy most of this week), and I went to check yesterday afternoon after a day of sun and the swarms... So sad.

Just some tomatoes and herbs this year--though it wont produce much since they all had to be potted.

We have a flowering meyer lemon tree, though soon that will have to be brought indoors and it wont have fruit that we can harvest in months

Awww... all of this sounds so great! I love backyard produce. We moved to a rental property though about a year and a half back, and I lost all my garden enthusiasm. Just not the same when it's not your own and all you have is a paltry patch of dirt to play with. Still... in it I have some neglected silverbeet which has outdone itself despite not being tended with love.

Just some herbs.  :)  All the usuals: oregano, lemon verbena, sage (which I hate but I have a friend who likes), comfrey if I can be bothered dealing with the little hairs, tangerine thyme, stevia, rosemary, some lavender maybe, lemon balm, feverfew if I get around to it.

Oh!  And tomatoes from the surprise indigo rose bush - we didn't plant it this year, it came up from seed!

I've got an indigo rose plant that I started from a seedling! I haven't gotten any tomatoes from it yet but it's trying.
