Balding Butterscotch?
« on: August 23, 2014, 02:56:31 PM »
I recently received  a lot of ponies, but something weird happened with Butterscotch!
During  routine shampooing her hair came out in my hands.
Literally, just came out in my hands, no pulling or force used.
Is this normal for concave version? Her neck is sealed, but her body is hard.
Any one have any information on this?

Ahhh if the glue breaks down, it can start to do this!  Well, it's not too hard to get her head off and re-hair.  :)  I'm sure you will be able to make her beautiful again!

Its certainly not common at all :( Or at least not to loose hair to that degree. However, as LBS has mentioned its unfortunately probably a case of breaking down glue which has either loosened the hair or rotted the nylon over time :( I am so sorry that happened to you!

Thank you both!
I've never had anything like it happen before, it was quite the scare!
Poor Butterscotch, but yay for having a use for the mountains of Dollyhair I've accumulated! lol

Yeah, I've had that happen to a G1 once too.  Luckily it was a pony I was planning to bait anyway, but it's a bit unsettling for sure.

Reminds me of the type of brake down you get when something is left in a hot car for years. So it could be glue brake down or the nylon is broken down.

Had something similar happen to a G1    Cherry Treats, her body was really hard and the hair just fell out. Probably due to wrong storage the plastic and the glue dry out and that's the result. That's the sad part about collecting old ponies, some nasty surprises show up once in a while.

Had that happen with fakies. Mine left the tiniest ends of their hair still left in the scalp holes, and I've only seen it happen with hair that is red tinted (in my case, pink and rusty Remco red.)
I'll put something here some time

I have actually had 2 Butterscotches (is that how you'd write her name in plural? I don't even know) that lost a substantial amount of hair as I was brushing it. I think it may have actually been the tail, not the mane - and neither of them lost that much hair; they still looked okay on display afterwards. So it's not quite the same but I just thought it was strange that it was Butterscotch.
