I kind of have to agree with Wardah that it seems unlikely they copied the colors of such an obscure pony. There aren't that many color combinations to choose from and I bet she is only one of a series of babies in leotards.

The obscure G1 pony is more likely to be an inspiration than G4 since people who are now adult professionals might have grown up with G1 and have fond memories of their childhood ponies.
