Sunspot/ dark spot facial correction
« on: August 03, 2014, 09:30:48 AM »
A couple of summers ago, I had a horrible sunburn on my face which left dark spots.

Has  anyone used any sunspot correction products? Do they work?  What do you use?

I have a couple too. I know people will suggest products with Retin-A in them but be aware these products can make the spots worse. My sis had laser treatments done and they also made it worse :( I guess I would say see a Derm to discuss options, and look for a great concealer. I finally found one that I can wear alone just over the sunspots, it's Physicians Formula mineral concealer.

I had questioned perhaps a chemical peel as well, but I don't feel like my face is that terrible.

I haven't ever used anything but I think I've heard cocoa butter is supposed to help but I could be mixed up.

I looked a lot into chemical peel because I have acne (turns out most of mine won't go away because they kind they are anyways). Retin-A can actually make things worst depending on you skin type. I have super sensitive fair (really fair) color. I have used this to no avail. It did not remove spots, wrinkles, or acne for my skin (yes I used this as a prescription as directed by a dermatologist).

I can't afford and am a little afraid to go into chemical peels because of the retin-a use. But if I could use I would go with a Trichloroacetic acid. My sister had it and several of her lighter freckles went away and all her black head and a good deal of 'perma'- zits (Milia) went away and never returned. She has very similar skin if not better skin then mine now. her skin turned red and flaked off like a sunburn.

If you haven't googled it yet here is a site with some info  I think retin-a is a Salicylic acid one

Stila dark spot corrector is an amazing product. It doesn't have hydroquinone which many products have which is a dangerous ingredient. You should check it out!

I might add that I'm a licensed esthetician, and work with products like this daily.

I picked up Clinique Better Than Clinical dark spot corrector, and it is working already! I am so pleased already- my face hasn't looked this good in years and it has only been a week. It's also getting rid of my acne scars!

I too would watch the Retin A Formulations, I tried that for a while and red tiny spider veins appeared.  ( Hopefully they will fade away)

skyrocketneko - Glad you found something that's working for you!

For anybody else that's looking, the Reverse regimen from Rodan + Fields is specifically made to target sun damage, including dark spots ^_^  It's pretty strong stuff, from the doctors that did Proactiv, so it's got a name behind it and plenty of reviews and stuff if you want to check it out.

There's a link in my sig that will take you to my website...all the ingredients are listed out for all the products :)
