Magic Eraser vs Store Brand/Generic
« on: July 30, 2014, 08:59:29 PM »
Magic Eraser is truly a GIFT to pony collectors! I love the stuff!

I saw a sale on the Store Brand/Generic Brand Magic Erasers the other day and was wondering if they were good to clean ponies.

Do you only buy the Mr. Clean name brand or do you buy the generics? Any issues with the generics or are they all the same?

Has anyone tried the Extra Power? Are they too abrasive for ponies (as I feared)?

Is there any other Magic Eraser type product we should consider using?

Please discuss ^.^

I personally so far have only used original as I feel like the others would be too abrasive (like coarser sandpaper) and I have only bought the name brand kind as I have been for years. >.<

I usually use the Mr. Clean original Magic Erasers but I have used even dollar store versions and they all seem to do the same job. I haven't noticed any abrasions from using one or the other type of erasers. I've not tried any of the Extra Power versions though and don't think I'll bother but only because I'm cheap

I tried walmart version - worked really well
tried dollar tree version - worked poorly and fell apart more quickly
haven't tried name brand but i'm considering it!

I washed a lot of ponies and i think some of them went through too quickly because I am noticing some spots...

Thanks for the input so far guys! :D

The two I were looking at instead of the Mr. Clean brand were the Walmart or Stop and Shop brands. It's so hard to tell which "store brands" buy from the same places :P

I've used the brand name, store brand (walmart) and some from dollarama. I feel as though they all work the same, the dollar store ones don't hold up as well, but they do get the job done. 9/10 I typically just grab store brand from walmart, it's a fraction of the cost, it holds up really well and it gets my ponies nice and clean :)

I usually buy the ones from Daiso Japan. They come in small sizes or a huge sponge.  visitors can't see pics , please register or login

I usually use the Mr. Clean brand (original) but sometimes I'll buy the Target brand version.

Both seem to work fine.  :)

I use store brand, usually Target, regular strength.  It has always worked well for me.  We also use these on our hot/stir plates in the lab to clean off burnt media and they work so well.  Every time I use them I am amazed at how much stain they can remove!

I've only ever used Mr.Cclean brand. I buy them at Costco because I use them ALL over the house. I have kids ya know lol. But year I can get a mixer tub there for a great price and I just delegate one as my pony sponge.
 Looking for G1 Starshine, Bubbles, Lickety Split, Posey, Tickle, and a few more

I buy mine at Dollar Tree, I have tried the ones from Rainbow stores but they shut down recently.

I cut the sponge into tiny pieces so it lasts a lot longer.

I have a really cheap brand one about the size of a sponge. I never dared open it though -- do they harm symbols and eyes?
I'm looking to buy Port-o-Bella. Please email me.

Don't have Mr Cleans here in Finland!  :) I tend to pick up the cheapest kind available though. It goes in the trash after a quick use after all, so no point using double the money on more expensive ones.
