Have you ever been thrifting, and bought something just because you felt bad for it?

I came across this sad little Cabbage Patch Pony....

I don't collect CPK, but she seemed to have the same problems we see in MLP- bent plastic, stains, surface dirt.  She was .79 and I just felt like she could pretty again :P  My daughter and I need to stay occupied this summer anyway, so...

Not sure what I'll do with her when she's done.  So far I've boiled her back into better shape and given her a good scrub.  She doesn't smell but I think she has some stains that will need sunfading.  Also, I looked her up and she's supposed to be a Crimp n' Curl Pony- I wonder if there is any way to add a clean wax back to hair and make it moldable?  Time for research!  I'll post some pics as she improves- just wanted to see if anyone else has done this   :silly:

I have the mini ones, this is one of the large ones, and I have never had to restore one before though.

Awww....I actually think that's lovely!

Not with ponies but I have done this with the occasional stuffed animal. I have a little hippo called Hugh that I remember seeing in a charity shop window week after week; he was overpriced for a second hand cuddly and for his size but I just could not leave him there. So I paid a few £ too much and now he lives happily here :)

this is kinda funny I have the same CPK pony and bought her from a goodwill for the same reason! Mine seems to have similar problems to yours being that she's in need of a good scrub and has stains. I'll be interested to see how you do with your restore on her.

I had a big one like that but sold her off a while ago. That is some hard plastic on them! WOW! I wonder what happened to it?

my sister and I had the smaller Crimp & Curl CPK ponies and we just gave them tons of braids, three of those thick strands in one braid, over and over... it looks cute and is nice and manageable. good luck with her, I have a special place in my heart for these things since I had some XD

Well, here she is looking much better  ^.^

I had to do some work the help get her back into shape- she's so large that the boiling water fill helped but didn't do the whole thing.  I wound up stuffing her with fabric and setting her in the sun.  It softened the plastic around the shape I wanted and helped her fill out again!  After that it was mostly spending time with acetone and Q-tips- she had so many random marks, most of which came out.  She still needs some sunfading for the yellowish spots but...

she actually turned out quite pretty!  I liked your idea of the braids, Lockette! Now she needs some ribbons for her hair, I think  :lovey:

Awww, she's so sweet looking!  I love her expression.  One of my childhood fakies is a rip off of this mold so I have a soft spot for it.  She's lucky that you found her to give her a new lease on life!
