Argie unicorns question
« on: July 08, 2014, 11:26:31 AM »
Hi!
Few days ago I bought this beauty girl. She seems normal in photos but when I had she in my hands, I saw some differences. Her hair is shorter than normal, and her body size is longer than usual argie unicorns...
Some argie brillitos are larger, right?
Is common sky flier in this size?

Please if you have any info, I will be very grateful!!

Kisses and thanks

wow, that is weird... I'm definitely not an argie specialist so I can't answer, but I have a italian sparkler who is honestly so tiny.. I have two of them and she is even smaller than the other one I have too... will be interested to see what the nirvana ponies here have to say... very cool pony you have there though!

My theory is still that someone made unofficial molds of the Hasbro ponies in order to increase production. All the smaller ponies seem to just fit inside the bigger ones...

Thanks girls!!!!
Jadis.... That argie giant ponies ( lol)  like Angelponies ginger or mine, have a lot of well done factory details. Not seems, to me, made with unofficial molds. Plus, I saw a taller argie brillitos unicorn,  mint on card....
Any way..... are pretty misterious ......

Caro: I guess you could be right with the MOC card, you can't argue with that.. However maybe they had a few different molds and some varied slighty in size?

I think what Jadis meant was that the larger versions were made from official Hasbro molds and the smaller versions were made out of molds that were cast from the inside of the larger versions. I hope that makes sense  I am not incredibly knowledgeable in Nirvanas whatsoever, but I have read that this happened. I'll see if I can't find a thread about it somewhere....

I have heard this discussed before. Yes there is some variety in the sizes across quite a few ponies with the same mould.

I have always been of the same opinion it being a simple mould variance. Moulds are and were exceptionally expensive to cast and provide. We also know that Top Toys produced from multiple factories during the 80s and they also had a pretty bad reputation for continuing to produce items even after they lost licenses [they would often simply recast moulds from previous licenses and keep on making the line - they did this across a lot of lines]. I would suspect the reason for the variation is simply that Top Toys recast new moulds from the original moulds or from already manufactured ponies. Depending on how its cast this can make the new mould bigger or smaller. Whether they did this in order that they could manufacture more of the item out of multiple factories or because they had lost the license, I guess we will never know!

At the Argie presentation at the MLP Fair this weekend Jadis and I compared some ponies

I have a tall and short MAsquerade
She has a tall and short Truly
The TALL one is SQUISHY plastic
The SHORT one is FIRMER plastic

not sure what it means...but it's interesting :)

Same thing with Windy and White Windy, if I remember well.
Don't you think it can be cause by the use of different plastics, which 'reduce' differently when 'drying' out of the mold ? Maybe its not the same from one factory to another, or from one year to another, can't this make sense ?

Hey caro!! There are two different molds for argie unis, one is smaller than the other and that's why you have different sized ponies. I like more the bigger one :D
