Pony collecting in college?

How did going to college affect your collecting, assuming you were a collector at the time? Did you put your hobby to the side or did you still manage to buy ponies?

I'm a college student now and I only trade to save some money. If you are a college student, other things should be priority, with ponies taking a back seat. This time is when you need all the money you can get for student expenses!

Good luck :)

I'm in college now too. I set aside a small portion of my work paycheck to save up for ponies and spend the rest on gas and college expenses :)

I'm in college and I still collect but most of it is catching stuff on clearance or hitting yard sales and thrift stores. Oh and trades.

I'm also in college now and have set ponies on the backburner. When I do have some spare money, it goes to my other collections first.

It totally depends on your individual circumstances. Some students are fortunate that they can afford to continue collecting, while others will not be. You don't have to stop collecting and focus only on studying when you are a student - everyone needs a hobby or something light & fluffy to distract from the seriousness that education can be. Equally you dont have to buy things in order to be a collector; being part of a community like this, having your collection as it stands and perhaps only adding to it very occasionally still makes you as much of a collector as someone buying regularly :)

I'm a student, and I actually started to collect while in college.  I have a job at the school, as well as an Etsy shop, so I have some extra spending money and use that on ponies.  My school expenses are usually just gas and food.  And ponies can be pretty cheap if you hunt around for them, so you can treat yourself every now and then too :)

I stopped buying ponies in college, but only because I couldn't find them anymore (G1s, but I rarely buy them online). Grad school, I started finding G1s in thrift stores again, so I started buying again. I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't have an income at the time though. Probably bought them anyway XD

It was a long time ago now, but I collected at university. I'd only just got back into MLP at that time, so was just starting to build a collection. I had a pony budget of £30 per month and I rarely went over, but it does feel like things were a bit different back then, as you could often get small lots that averaged out cheap, or more common ponies for a couple of quid including postage.

I was going to say what LadyG said - I started collecting in Uni but it was years ago and prices were a bit lower. But you can still find a good deal, and as Hathorcat says, you don't need to be buying all the time to be a collector.

I worked through college so I had a little spending money. I still collected, but just a teeny bit of ebay purchases and mainly thrifts/yard sales.

I found only one G1 pony during the first three years, then a few more the fourth year. Also during the fourth year G3 came out, and I started getting those. Had maybe ten or so total when I finally went home... ten in four years... wow...

I was a transformers dork in college.. but in addition to the student loans i also had a full time job.. So i DID have a lil extra money to spend on some goodies.. if your working and can afford it i see no reason to stop collecting ....IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT.. if you cant then its probably better to set it on the back burner and pay for books and things first.
but if you still do have a job.. you can set your self a lil allowance for them.. it does no harm as long as its in moderation
