Mint except for a haircut, how much do *you* drop the price?

A couple bucks; haircuts are easy to fix!
8 (25.8%)
$5 or 1/3 off the mint price, it's not mint.
12 (38.7%)
1/2 the price of a mint one, haircuts are a major flaw.

Haircuts equal bait pricing, in my book!

How do you price them?
« on: May 22, 2014, 01:03:59 PM »
So, what do you consider an appropriate price cut for a haircut? Not like completely chopped off, but say, a long haired pony with a shorter hair cut, like newborn twins who should have the longer hair, but have hair the same length as the ones with short manes?

Are haircuts a big deal, a Nope not worth buying kind of thing, or do you have a more who cares, it's still cute attitude?

I think it depends on the pony, really. If she's easier to find without cut hair it'll be harder to sell one with a haircut. If she's HTF you'll probably be able to get away with selling her for higher.

But in general a slight haircut doesn't bother me. :) It's a matter of opinion but as long as it's not an ugly hack job, I'm okay with it.

Heh I've discovered I have lots of ponies with haircuts: forelocks when they aren't supposed to have one, baby brightbow with a standard length mane instead of the long one she should have, long haired applejack with her mane cut so it's still longer than the short haired one, but obviously cut, things like that.  I figured this way I can get a rough idea instead of doing price checks on each one, since the list would be pretty long and all with the same issue. :)

Depends on the rarity of the pony and the person buying.
I actually think haircuts give lots of character and like having some ponies with them, but I would of course expect to pay less for a pony if it does indeed have a visible one.

Hair cuts are actually one of the things I most dislike. Almost everything else - other than regrind and age marks - can be fixed and restored without something being added to the pony. Hair cuts cant, unless I rehair them which is as non original as a repainted symbol. So for me it devalues quite a bit.

However, I do agree that its very subjective - depends on collector, on the pony, on how bad the hair cut is. Its interesting how differently we all view collecting.

Haircuts tend to drive me insane.....I've bought a few ponies, telling myself that I could live with a little trim here or there, but I tend to fixate on that and upgrade the pony as soon as possible.   Rarity definitely makes a difference, though, and I wouldn't judge an Argie with missing plugs as harshly (if at all) as I would a regular US released G1 with a haircut.

lol, honestly, I sort of keep my eyes out for ponies with hair cuts because they usually are cheaper and I really enjoy rehairing :)  I do keep careful notes, though, of the ponies that I have rehaired, just in case I decide to sell them, because I do not believe it is honest to sell a beautifully reharied pony as a pony with "perfect" hair.

I'm a big fan of restoring. Hair cuts don't bother me. I voted for option 1.

I don't really mind cuts. I may or may not upgrade- sometimes I like the punk look it gives the pony.

Haircuts don't bother me too much, but it can be costly and time consuming to rehair. I'd price them a little below mint but maybe accept fair offers?
There are a few ponies I only bought because they required rehairing or had already been rehaired and were priced cheaper because of it.

In my experience on conventions ponies with hair cuts dont sell very well - because there is so much competition and still a lot of nice ones available ;-)
I usually drop the price quite a lot if the pony has a visible (and slightly annoying) hair cut. But that's me and my pricing.

with all this talk of rehairing (which i didnt realize was a thing before...) i put more stock in ponies with original hair. i think price cut depends on the severity of the cut
~I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more ponies! I gotta have more ponies!~
