Large Plush - how to clean?
« on: May 06, 2014, 01:31:08 PM »
Hey, I have one of the huge g3 fluffy haired plushies, like this:

(pic by strawberry reef)

Does anyone know the best way to clean these?  She's all dingy, and her hair is a mess.  Can I throw her in the washer, or will that ruin her hair?  Not worried about the stuffing, I'm thinking of cutting her open and restuffing her anyway (her stuffing is all squished and out of place).  Has anyone had any success restoring these?  Thanks!

As long as its a gentle and low temp cycle you will be able to machine wash her. But if you are worried a surface wash with wipes and a sponge will get rid of a lot of any dirt/dust she has collected. :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Well, if you're going to unstuff her anyway go ahead a throw her in the wash. Be sure to add in some kind of color catcher in case her mane/tail/symbol decides to bleed.

For smaller stuffed animals,  I tie them up in pillow cases before I put them in the washer and dryer.  Seem to keep them from getting overly battered. Maybe try wrapping it in a duvet cover since it is so big.

Since it hasn't been said here yet but in the other thread. A wire brush like a pet 'slicker' brush will fluff up stuffed animal fur once you are done with all the surface cleaning. The do sell specific teddy bear brushes out there as well but the wire ones are essentially the same as a slicker brush. Which pet ones are much cheaper ;)
