A question about computer fans..
« on: March 24, 2014, 11:14:02 AM »
Is anyone here familiar with the workings of case fans etc..
specifically...

I'm making a fursuit of mega charizard x. My plan was to do the flames coming out of his mouth like prop flames, with very lightweight silk fabric and two case fans blowing air to make it look like fire.. The head will be very big so I will be able to fit 120 mm case fans in there, but...

To get something that moves enough air.. how much cfm would I need?
And what kind of battery could I use (i have a large amount of padding- i could wear a very substansial battery and have it hidden in the foam so thats not a big deal) if I'd want it to be able to run for... around 3 hours??

Lol, hopefully someone here can help me  I'm kind of shy so I wanted to see if anyone on the arena knew before I tried asking in computer forums etc...

I wish I had some sort of reference lol! Like if I knew how much air one fan pushed I could figure out what I needed in relation to that  Maybe there are computer supply stores I could go to in person..

The thing with computer fans is that they generally use the motherboard and AC power to run. To use one with  a battery you're going to need to do a little DIY work to one. I've found this tutorial video which might help. I can't test it right now as i'm on a computer with no speakers, but from what i can see it seems to get the point across :)
