I've never heard of Mardi gras before. In Sweden we have something similar though. Today is called "Fettisdagen" and it's a tradition to eat a Swedish pastry called "semla". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fettisdagen

We mainly just call it Pancake Day and eat lots of pancakes. I ate mine with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate sauce mmmm!

We celebrate it here as the end of the carnival period. Today is called maškare (maška, maska as mask or costume), but people masked on this day are also called like that. Kids in costumes visit houses in the neighbourhood, sing and get candy (similar to Halloween).
One of the most recognised symbols of this day are the doughnuts

Happy Fat Tuesday! My BFF and I cruised around the historic part of town. Which is all decked out. We're both Wiccan so it's more celebrating then for religious reasons.

Enjoy and eat good. Now I want donuts.

 Masquerade is the perfect pony for Mardi Gras!
I celebrated by staying inside. It's rainy, windy, and SUPER cold down here so it's no beuno in regards to all the parades.  Usually I celebrate with my friends by dressing up in costumes and running around the quarter. Yey!

I love NOLA, even though I'm not a native by any means, and I've never been to Mardi Gras, I still love to chow down on King Cake and beignets! Sadly, I'm in the middle of moving between states and didn't get a chance to do either today.  Ah well, I'll just have a double helping next year!

I made a mardi gras inspired custom a few years ago. I'm actually thinking of updating her,( her mask, feathers, curls.)
