Hand made Rainbow looms
« on: February 21, 2014, 02:11:45 AM »
Guys my son just got into this. His friends have been making these for each other all year and he wanted to try and make some too. So I bought a few packs of rubber bands, I didnt want to buy the loom though because If it didnt take off then id have wasted money.

I saw a few youtubes where people used forks. I tried that but didnt like how cramped it was, also the bands kinda slide around a lot and it was really easy for them to fall off in my sons hands. Sooo I looked around for new ideas. One thing we have a lot of, are those cheap wooden disposable chop sticks. So this is what I came up with!

They are kinda crude, but I really like how well they work! They are just chopsticks, and perler beads and tape xD, The wood kinda holds onto the band a bit better so it doesn't go sliding all over the place, and they're really easy to hold on to. This is what we made so far.

My son made the orange/green/black one using one of the 2 pronged sticks, and I made the blue one with the 4 pronged one. I guess these patterns are called dragon scale and fish tail? either way it was lots of fun. :p

I just thought I would share. I figure you probably need a loom to make some of the really complicated ones, one of his friends gave him one that was a creeper face o_o, so maybe someday well try that out. Feel free to share your creations or any other short cuts youve come up with! ^^

I've never made them before, but I notice in the middle school there is a big surge in popularity for them. One day I had about ten 6th graders making them while reading their books, and I have a cute little ring one they made me. Those are adorable quick little crafts for kids I think. ^.^

That's an ingenious idea with the chopsticks, and looks just the same (if not better, good job!)
People are buying those looms at my store, two and three at a time, it's nuts!

I got one at the store Five Below... for $5 :) I've made a couple of them. I don't think I have thehand eye coordination to make much beyond the basic design haha xD

My oldest daughter is all over her Rainbow Loom - in fact for her birthday party in a few weeks it's going to be a Rainbow Loom themed party!

She's now taken to watching videos on making little animals - she made a snake, a dolphin, and a dragonfly.  They are pretty cool, as are all the bracelets.  :)

One of my art students give me a bracelet he made on his loom.  I think it's fabulous that all these kids love making them.

I love Rainbow Looms! I usually use my fingers to make bracelets, even though I do have the loom. I also have some pony loom charms and bands!
