Really? I've never had that problem, but it's definitely something to keep in mind and consideration!
The community (or as much of it as I've been exposed to) seems really active and kind and that kinda why I suggested it. There's more of a community to respond to your posts then I've found on wordpress (can't speak for blogspot!). I had a hard time getting anyone to read or find my blog on wordpress, but it's easier to use than lj (but that could also be because my posts were super lame ).
Membership is free so you could always give them all a try and pick your favorite!

Just to say the incident that they're probably referring to had nothing to do with gay stuff and everything to do with things involving minors that got seriously misinterpreted.

Do you mean photo space? Photos uploaded directly to blogger go to your picasa account which comes with 15360 Mb of space. I use it for all my photos I need to upload for web use (mainly because I'm lazy and picasa automatically scales the photos down to proper size), and after 5 years I still haven't managed to fill up more than 4,45% of the photo space. Also you can always have your photos hosted on some different hosting site and add them to your blog using [img] tags.
