Like a lot of us, I didn't really know that Hasbro had officially made boy ponies, so I knew that my Salty was a boy (he just looked like it), but Steamer looked so girly, he was Salty's wife . . . -_- Their daughter was Chief . . .   I had a Secret Star, and he was so big that I knew he had to be a boy (plus his daughter Baby Tabby fit perfectly inside his saddle), and then I made Starswirl a boy because I needed another guy. That seems like such a strange choice today, since she looks so girly. But boys were scarce. When I got older, I realized the clydesdales were all boys, and I also found Lady Moondancer's Dream (anyone remember that website?) and adopted many of her ideas as my canon. Skydancer, Sprinkles, and Sunbeam became boys. And when I got a Snuzzle, I decided he was a boy. Yeah, there are more than that that I can't remember, too. Oh, Baby Frosting, for one.

I also was pretty much unaware of the official boy ponies, but like TwistedRiver, I kind of thought of Baby Northstar and Toppy as being masculine.  Which is kind of odd because Baby Northstar is PINK!  XD  And I was definitely surprised to discover that Gusty was meant to be a girl (even though I watched the cartoon...)  But for the most part, it didn't really occur to me that ponies even had genders.

I didn't know there was official boy ponies until after I'd been playing with my ponies for years. So, I'd decided quite a few of my ponies were boys. They were Coco Berry, Tuneful, North Star, Baby Cuddles, Baby Bows, and Baby Cotton Candy. I also thought Cotton Candy, Blue Belle and Minty were boys. It was my babysitter who told me there were actual boys ponies made. She gave me her childhood Steamer. I loved him so much, and so did all the girls in my herd! I never had a chance to buy any in the store or I would have wanted them all!

My friend also had Baby Sunribbon and Baby Rainribbon and we always played with them as twins, with Sunribbon being the boy.

Barnacle was my only male. Think I had Buzzer in more masculine role she was at least a tomboy LOL I can't remember if I had any others as a male or not.

Magic Star was the only boy in my herd. Which was often patterned after the herds of wild horses, so I really only need a boy. I made a bandana for him out of a scrap of fabric.  That classic 80's fabric with the little paisley flowers on it, and a tiny safety pin.

I had no idea there were boys, so I had Birthday Pony, Moondancer, Beach Ball, Hula Hula BunnyHop and some fakies as boys... oh and Firefly. My bestie had L'il Pocket, Sunspot, Sky Rocket, Tall Tales, Firefly, Moondancer and Magic Star as boys, too.

None of 'em. My all-female herd had everything under control and they didn't need any boys cramping their style.

Peachy and Love Melody were the boys in our herd  With their heart themes and all, I can't recall the reasoning behind that.

Applejack, Bow tie and the unicorn Skyflier where my "boys " just the colouring I think. I didn't have any big brothers so made my own up. It's funny even now if I know it's a girl and I think it looks like a boy I just think "him" hehe

I only had one pony growing up but when I first started getting back into ponies I got a bunch of G3s and to me Tropical Surprise will always be a boy. Just that lovely shade of blue with the green hair and the cutie mark that looks like something that would be on a pair of boy surfer shorts.

My only male was Baby Dangles. I think gender stereotypes took their toll and I naturally assumed she was a he because of the blue mane.
I never "made" ponies a gender anyways because in German the word "pony" is neutral, so all ponies are referred to as "it". The only ponies that were 100% female to me were Ringlet and Swirly Whirly. Simply because they were (and still are) my favorites and I guess I wanted to identify with them more.

Highly psychological stuff right there

My sister and I only had a few ponies each but we never had boys...I think sometimes they had 'boyfriends' but they were only ever imaginary.

NSS Buttons & Shady were both boys in my herd... Despite both being pink!
