G1's "Core 7"

Thank goodness it never happened! But if Hasbro had decided in the 80s to refine the line down to a core of 6 or 7 characters, who do you think they would have chosen? Who are MLPs most defining G1 toys or characters in  your opinion? Or what mix of unicorn/pegasus/earth and body/hair colours would create the line up a toy company would have gone for? Or simply...who would you have preferred to see if it was your "core 7" to select.

i cant just choose seven! but if i had too...

twilight, gusty, firefly, surprise, bowtie, and applejack.

or...

cotton candy, bluebelle, minty, butterscotch, blossom, and snuzzle.

OR...

moondancer, glory, medley, wind whistler, bubbles and seashell.


really, the possibilities are endless.

I think Firefly would have been an obvious choice, and maybe Applejack.  When I think of this question, I think of the ponies that show up in the theme song on some of the original cartoons and feel that they would be some of the ones chosen.

Oh goodness . . . gotta go w/ Cotton Candy, Bubbles, Applejack, Bow-Tie, Glory, Moondancer, Firefly.  Can I do a Core 8 and include Medley??? 

I'm glad Hasbro didn't do a G1 Core 7 *but* I do wish they had revisited their classic characters from time to time.  It was as if each new year of ponies wiped out the previous year when they moved into Dream Valley!

I honestly don't think they would have started a Core 7 in the Second Year.  Though, Applejack/Bow-Tie/Firefly/Glory/Medley/Moondancer/Twilight does look good as a group.  Going Core 7 would probably come with MLP getting a series.  At which point Wind Whistler/Fizzy/Gusty/Shady/Truly/North Star/Paradise were the characters that particularly stood out.

I agree with these ^  I'd think if Hasbro had refined the G1 line to 7 core ponies it would be ones that were either in the movie or were featured in many of the episodes.

For me personally though, the seven ponies that most represent G1 for me would be Bluebelle (my first pony), Firefly, Medley, Majesty, Sundance, Gusty, and Bright Eyes

As others have said, I'd go with ones that came up in the show most often. So I'd definitely say Fizzy, Wind Whistler, Gusty, Shady, and Lickety Split, but I'm not sure who else. Maybe Paradise, North Star, or Heart Throb? That's a lot of Pegasus!

I'd have to go with Bow Tie, Applejack, Surprise, Gusty...um...Sparkler....Dancing Butterflies and Majesty to rule them all!

Hmmm, expanding it to eight to give two of each type, I always thought it might be Galaxy, Gusty, Wind Whistler, Shady, Fizzy, Masquerade, Sweet Stuff, and Truly. Toss in a few color swaps, and you got a good pony bunch with a variety of personalities.

 As for the TV series "core" That would be Wind Whistler, Shady, Magic Star, Fizzy, Surprise, Buttons Or which ones were in the Movie LOL

I pretty much agree with everyone else.
I was thinking of the four characters from the "Mish Mash Melee" episode, Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Gusty and Shady. They always seemed like the main ones to me, along with Buttons... and then probably Heart Throb and Truly.

Well, Wind Whistler and Fizzy were the primary ponies in the ads for So Softs and Twinkle Eyes respectively, so they would probably be in any core set.

I agree with what others are saying.  At least during the movie and series, the Core 7 for Hasbro had to include:

Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Gusty, Truly

Maybe, to make it even:  Paradise, Shady.  And I'm going to add Megan as the seventh, even though she's not a pony.

Firefly has to be in it, but other than that it is hard to say.
